Now, there was work for the hampers that George and Harris had taken on, which the narrator agreed to. The two began packing in cheerful disposition and showing the narrator how to do it. However, according to the narrator, Harris is the worst packer in the world. The narrator could see piles of plates and cups, and kettles, and bottles, and jars, and pies, and stoves, and cakes, and tomatoes, etc., and felt that the thing would soon become exciting.

The narrator was right as he started by breaking the cup. Harris packed the strawberry jam on top of a tomato and crushed it. George stepped on the butter.
