The author describes how on his arrival in the city he was able to stay in a hotel in the central part of Kathmandu. He managed to sleep in his room for the rest of the day and the next morning he visits two famous temples of Kathmandu. One is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and the other is a Buddhist temple called Boudhanath Stupa. Buddhists regularly visit this temple for worship and prayers.
The author starred alongside his visit to the Pashupatinath Temple. The author describes that the whole environment around the temple was of a feverish illusion, a confusing condition that can make one sick on the first move. Priests were devotees, hawkers were cows, monkeys, pigeons, dogs and among them were tourists who wanted to capture the scenery in their eyes. The worshipers were pushing and elbowing each other to reach the presiding deity. The author further states that between this illusion and the male comes a princess from the royal family of Nepal. Everyone bows down and makes way for him. A party of saffron-clad westerners appears. They were denied entry into the temple because the guard policeman did not believe that they were Hindus as the right of entry was reserved only for the upper caste Hindus. A fight breaks out between the two monkeys and they jump on a 'shivalinga', eventually running towards the sacred Bagmati river which flows beneath the temple. The author narrates the scenes on the banks of the river – corpses burning, washermen washing dirty clothes, children bathing and suddenly someone throws flowers and leaves and old prasad from the balcony into the river. The holy river accepts everything without any resistance.
The author takes the reader to a Buddhist temple. The dome of the temple is white and is surrounded by a road. There is no noise, there is no crowd and the whole atmosphere is so peaceful and calm. Small shops nearby sell silver jewellery, Tibetan art pieces, felt bags, etc. In para 4 the author describes about the busy streets of Kathmandu, with small temples, fruit vendors, hawkers, shops selling cosmetics, chocolates, copper utensils, fruit vendors, flutes. Suddenly the author is reminded of his return journey. He thought of going to Patna by train, then traveling the Ganges from Banaras to Allahabad, then the Yamuna river to Agra and then to Delhi. But it was just thinking out loud and he decided to go straight home and reach home early because he was falling ill. He enters the Nepal Airlines office and buys a ticket for a flight leaving Kathmandu tomorrow. Then he proceeds to his hotel. On the way he meets a man selling flute. He had different types of flutes which he used to play one by one. Intermittently he stops by to sell to a client, but he is more interested in music than business. Maybe this has been his life for years. Another has a fascination for music, especially the sound of a flute. The flute is a charm in the commonality of all mankind.
The other feels that on several occasions he returned home after a long tour but he never went into details like Kathmandu. The sound of the flute still vibrates in his ears.

अचानक लेखक को उसकी वापसी यात्रा के बारे में याद दिलाया जाता है। उन्होंने ट्रेन से पटना जाने के बारे में सोचा, फिर बनारस से इलाहाबाद तक गंगा की यात्रा की, फिर यमुना नदी से आगरा और फिर दिल्ली तक। लेकिन यह सिर्फ जोर से सोच रहा था और उसने सीधे घर जाने और घर जल्दी पहुंचने का फैसला किया क्योंकि वह बीमार पड़ रहा था। वह नेपाल एयरलाइंस के कार्यालय में प्रवेश करता है और कल काठमांडू से जाने वाली उड़ान के लिए टिकट खरीदता है। फिर वह अपने होटल की ओर बढ़ता है। रास्ते में उसे एक व्यक्ति बांसुरी बेचते हुए मिलता है। उनके पास तरह-तरह की बाँसुरी थी जिसे वे एक-एक करके बजाते थे। बीच-बीच में वह एक ग्राहक को बेचने के लिए रुकता है, लेकिन उसे व्यवसाय से ज्यादा संगीत में दिलचस्पी है। शायद सालों से यही उनका जीवन रहा है। दूसरे का संगीत के प्रति आकर्षण है, विशेष रूप से एक बांसुरी की आवाज। बांसुरी सभी मानव जाति की समानता में एक आकर्षण है।
दूसरे को लगता है कि कई मौकों पर वह लंबे दौरे के बाद घर लौटा लेकिन वह काठमांडू जैसे विवरणों में कभी नहीं गया। बांसुरी की आवाज अभी भी उसके कानों में कंपन करती है।
