इस कविता में एक दादी की विशेषताओं को दर्शाया गया है। पोर्ट्रेट के माध्यम से कोई भी व्यक्ति के रूप और चेहरे के भाव की पहचान कर सकता है कि वह किस तरह की व्यक्ति थी। कवि प्रत्येक पंक्ति में अपनी दादी के रूप के बारे में स्पष्ट रूप से बताता है। हालांकि कवि ने उनके रूप को उन्मत्त और गंभीर बताया है। उसकी आंखें तना हैं, लेकिन कवि को यकीन है कि वे भी हंस सकते हैं। उसके बालों को एक टाइट बन में वापस खींच लिया गया है।

उसने काले रंग की ड्रेस पहनी हुई है जिसमें कोई ज्वैलरी नहीं है। कवि का जन्म दादी की मृत्यु के बाद हुआ है। भले ही वह उसे नहीं जानता था, लेकिन उसे लगता है कि वह उसमें खुद को पहचान सकता है। कवि चाहता है कि उसके परपोते (तीन पीढ़ियों बाद जन्म) को ऐसा महसूस हो। उसके करीब जैसा कि वह अब अपनी दादी के बारे में महसूस करता है।
