Sophie is a teenage girl with big dreams. She comes from a poor family background. She wants to start her own boutique after school. If not, she is pretty sure that she can become an actress or a fashion designer. His friend Jansi tells him that dreams do come true if you have money or experience.

She also tells him that he is expected to work in a biscuit factory after he finishes school due to his family background. Sophie lives in a house which is very small in terms of the number of people in her family. Her family doesn't believe her, as she is known to create stories and scenarios in her mind that are far from reality.

Her older brother Geoff, who doesn't let anyone enter her life, fascinates her. He is strong, handsome and tall. She is jealous of his silence and wants him to take her on a bike in English. In the story "Going Places", Barton explores themes of teenage fantasy and hero-worship.

Ride. Sophie is attracted to Danny Casey, a young Irish football player. She tells her brother that she met him at the arcade, which is not true. Geoff doesn't believe him because he thinks it's unlikely. She also tells him that Casey had asked her to meet him elsewhere. Sophie keeps on crafting the story in such a way that she starts believing it.

She walks along the canal on the path that was sheltered. It is in the same neighborhood where his house is. This is where she used to play in her childhood. She was waiting for him on the wooden bench under the elm tree. She spends time waiting for him to arrive, but he never does. She then goes back home and feels sad thinking how sad and disappointed her brother will be. However, she doesn't actually come out of the imagination and assumes that Casey will come to visit her.
