On a fine August morning in 1896, in a dentist's clinic, a very beautiful woman of eighteen years old is seen with a glass of water in her hand. She is trying to bear her pain. The dentist, a handsome young man of about thirty, looks at her with the self-satisfaction of a successful operator.

The young woman thanked the dentist who handed her the glass. The dentist who installed the glass on the narrow self said it was his first dental operation. Out of fear, the young woman asks him if he had started his practice on it. To this the dentist replied that every dentist starts with something or the other. The girl retaliated and said that there is no payer in the hospital. The dentist made it clear that the hospital does not count. He only meant that this was the first case in his private practice.

After this the dentist asked him why he did not allow him to give gas. He replied that he refused to remove the gas because he asked for a five shillings extractor. The dentist was surprised that he had hurt her for five shillings.

She got up and said that it is the dentist's profession to hurt someone. He smiled secretly and proceeded to clean and change his equipment. Meanwhile, the girl went near the window and started looking here and there. He asked her many questions. He inquired about her furniture, her family members and her marital status. The dentist told him that the furniture belonged to the landlords, that he was not married and that other members of his family were not on the premises.

She asks the dentist if he charges five shillings for everything. The dentist gives a positive answer. When asked why he says that this is his system. Hearing this, she takes out a five shilling coin and gives it to Hai and asks her to make a hole in it and wear it on the chain of her watch. The dentist thanked him.

The girl is the maid of the parlor. She lives with her brother Philip. Valentine, the dentist, visits him. She introduces him to her brother. She talks about how they met and became good friends.

In no time a long debate starts between the three. The subject is culture, civilization, attitude etc. They talk about the good and bad effects of the 20th century. Brother and sister talk with the dentist about their mother, her writing and outlook on life. They ask Valentine to have lunch with them. He refused to have lunch with strangers. Discussion continues. A feeling . Humor covers the whole discussion. All three of these characters are funny and lively.

युवती ने उसे गिलास सौंपने वाले दंत चिकित्सक को धन्यवाद दिया। नैरो सेल्फ पर ग्लास लगाने वाले डेंटिस्ट ने कहा कि यह उनका पहला दांत का ऑपरेशन था। डर के मारे युवती उससे पूछती है कि क्या उसने उस पर अपना अभ्यास शुरू किया था। इस पर डेंटिस्ट ने जवाब दिया कि हर डेंटिस्ट की शुरुआत किसी न किसी से होती है। युवती ने पलटवार करते हुए कहा कि अस्पताल में कोई भुगतान करने वालों पर नहीं है। डेंटिस्ट ने साफ कर दिया कि अस्पताल की गिनती नहीं है। उनका केवल इतना मतलब था कि यह उनके निजी अभ्यास में पहला मामला था।

इसके बाद दंत चिकित्सक ने उससे पूछा कि उसने उसे गैस देने की अनुमति क्यों नहीं दी। उसने जवाब दिया कि उसने गैस निकालने से मना कर दिया क्योंकि उसने पांच शिलिंग एक्सट्रैक्टर से पूछा। दंत चिकित्सक को आश्चर्य हुआ कि उसने उसे पांच शिलिंग के लिए चोट पहुंचाई थी।

युवती पार्लर की नौकरानी है। वह अपने भाई फिलिप के साथ रहती है। वैलेंटाइन, दंत चिकित्सक, उससे मिलने जाता है। वह उसे अपने भाई से मिलवाती है। वह बात करती है कि वे कैसे मिले और अच्छे दोस्त बन गए।

थोड़ी ही देर में तीनों में लंबी बहस शुरू हो जाती है। विषय है संस्कृति, सभ्यता, दृष्टिकोण आदि। वे 20वीं सदी के अच्छे और बुरे प्रभावों के बारे में बात करते हैं। भाई और बहन दंत चिकित्सक के साथ अपनी मां, उनके लेखन और जीवन के प्रति दृष्टिकोण के बारे में बात करते हैं। वे वेलेंटाइन से उनके साथ लंच करने के लिए कहते हैं। उन्होंने अजनबियों के साथ लंच करने से मना कर दिया। चर्चा जारी है। एक एहसास । हास्य पूरी चर्चा को कवर करता है। ये तीनों पात्र मजाकिया और जीवंत हैं।
