एक दिन उसने दासी दिलरुबा के माध्यम से राजकुमारी जहाँआरा को टोकरी में अच्छी तरह से सजा हुआ गुलाब 'सुबा' भेजा। बदले में राजकुमारी ने उसे एक रेशमी जैकेट भेजा। अगले दिन जब वह खिलाए गए फूल की खुदाई कर रहा था, तो पन्ना नाम की एक और नौकरानी आती है और उसे बताती है कि वह राजकुमारी जहांआरा की दासी है। मकबूल अपनी खुदाई पूरी करता है, सोने के गेंदे की टोकरी के साथ बैठ जाता है और माला को तानना शुरू कर देता है।

वह बताता है कि वह उसे हनुमानजी मंदिर ले जा रहा है। पन्ना मकबूल से उसे मंदिर ले जाने का अनुरोध करता है। मकबूल इस शर्त पर राजी हो जाता है कि वह उसे कुछ नहीं खरीदेगा। वह उसे आगरा की व्यस्त सड़कों पर ले गया। पन्ना ने आश्चर्य और प्रसन्नता से चारों ओर देखा।

उसने एक स्ट्रीट वेंडर से भुना हुआ चना और शकरकंद खरीदा, वह चौड़ी आंखों से आसमान की ओर देख रही थी, जैसे ही वह ऊपर उड़ती पतंग को देख रही थी, सैनिक अपनी तलवारों के साथ प्रवेश करते हैं और कहा कि राजकुमारी का अपहरण कर लिया गया है। पन्ना ने अपना भेष प्रकट किया और कमांडर ने मकबूल को आत्मसमर्पण करने के लिए कहा। राजकुमारी जहांआरा उसे बचाती है और मकबूल को अपने बगीचे में वापस जाने के लिए कहती है।

अगले दिन मकबूल उदास होकर बगीचे में बैठा था और राजकुमारी जहाँआरा वहाँ आ गई। मकबूल ने कहा कि कमांडर चाहता था कि वह तुरंत सिकंदरा के लिए निकल जाए। राजकुमारी जहाँआरा ने किला के गुलाब के बाग मकबूल को जीवन भर के लिए पुरस्कृत किया और उनसे अनुरोध किया कि जब भी वह मंदिर जाए तो उसे प्रसाद भेजें।
