Maiua is a small village situated on the banks of Punpun River. Sita, a poor widow, lived with her only son, Ratan. Sita was very poor but she loved her son very much. She wanted him to study and become a great person. To meet the cost of her studies, she worked as a housewife and grew vegetables in her backyard. Ratan was not interested in his studies and dropped out of school midway. Depressed Sita sold her silver bangles and opened a small shop for Ratan. Ratan proved to be good in business. Then Sita married him to Bela. But after marriage, Ratan started neglecting his mother. A year later, Ratan and Bela had a son. Ratan completely forgot his ailing mother and never took her to the doctor.

Once it rained heavily, the village was flooded. Ratan's house also leaked One night he saw his wife protecting her son with her sari, when she herself was completely drenched. Ratan heard his mother coughing, who was trembling on her cot outside the house. Ratan immediately realized his mistake. He ran to his mother crying and asked her to forgive. Bela also came out after hearing Ratan's voice. He saw Ratan in Sita's lap. Both were crying. Bela also started crying seeing this scene. She went and sat beside him. It was a happy family union.

माईउआ पुनपुन नदी के तट पर बसा एक छोटा सा गाँव है। एक गरीब विधवा सीता अपने इकलौते पुत्र रतन के साथ रहती थी। सीता बहुत गरीब थी लेकिन वह अपने बेटे से बहुत प्यार करती थी। वह चाहती थी कि वह पढ़े और एक महान व्यक्ति बने। अपनी पढ़ाई का खर्च वहन करने के लिए, उसने एक गृहिणी के रूप में काम किया और अपने पिछवाड़े में सब्जियां उगाईं। रतन को अपनी पढ़ाई में कोई दिलचस्पी नहीं थी और उन्होंने बीच में ही स्कूल छोड़ दिया। उदास सीता ने अपनी चाँदी की चूड़ियाँ बेचीं और रतन के लिए एक छोटी सी दुकान खोली। रतन व्यापार में अच्छा साबित हुआ। फिर सीता ने उनका विवाह बेला से कर दिया। लेकिन शादी के बाद रतन अपनी मां की उपेक्षा करने लगी। एक साल बाद रतन और बेला को एक बेटा हुआ। रतन अपनी बीमार माँ को पूरी तरह भूल गया और उसे कभी डॉक्टर के पास नहीं ले गया।

एक बार तेज बारिश होते ही गांव में बाढ़ आ गई। रतन का घर भी हुआ लीक एक रात उसने अपनी पत्नी को अपनी साड़ी से अपने बेटे की रक्षा करते हुए देखा, जब वह खुद पूरी तरह से भीग चुकी थी। रतन ने अपनी माँ को खाँसते हुए सुना, जो घर के बाहर अपनी खाट पर काँप रही थी। रतन को तुरंत अपनी गलती का एहसास हुआ। वह रोते हुए अपनी मां के पास दौड़ा और उसे माफ करने के लिए कहा। रतन की आवाज सुनकर बेला भी बाहर आ गई। उसने सीता की गोद में रतन को देखा। दोनों रो रहे थे। बेला भी यह दृश्य देखकर रोने लगी। वह उनके पास जाकर बैठ गई। यह एक खुशहाल पारिवारिक मिलन था।
