प्लीज लिसन ही कविता मुलाच्या त्याच्या पालकांकडून अपेक्षा आहे. जेव्हा त्याला/तिला काहीतरी सांगायचे असेल तेव्हा पालकांनी त्याचे ऐकावे अशी मूल इच्छा असते. अनेकदा, जेव्हा मुलाला पालकांनी त्याचे/तिचे ऐकावे असे वाटते, तेव्हा पालक मुलाला सल्ला देऊ लागतात आणि मुलाला विशिष्ट मार्ग का वाटू नये हे समजावून सांगू लागतात. यामुळे पालकांना मुलाच्या समस्येचे निराकरण करण्यासाठी काहीतरी केल्याबद्दल समाधानाची भावना मिळते. परंतु, प्रत्यक्षात, मुलाच्या भावनांवर खरोखर परिणाम झाला आहे आणि त्यामुळे त्याला/तिला अपयशाची भावना अनुभवायला मिळते.

 

बोलण्याऐवजी आणि सल्ला देण्याऐवजी, मुलाने पालकांनी आपले ऐकावे असे वाटते. सल्ला खूप स्वस्त आहे आणि मुलाला तो अगदी सहज मिळू शकतो. मूल पालकांना आठवण करून देतो की तो/ती त्याच्या/तिच्या गोष्टी स्वतः करू शकतो. मूल सुरुवातीला निरुत्साही किंवा गडबडले तरी, तो/ती कोणत्याही प्रकारे असहाय्य नसतो. मुलासाठी असे काहीतरी केल्याने जे तो/ती स्वतः करू शकतो, मुलाची भीती आणि अपुरेपणाच वाढतो. जेव्हा पालक मुलाचे ऐकतात तेव्हा त्याला/तिला अशी उत्तरे मिळतात जी मूल शोधत आहे आणि तर्कहीन भावनांना समजू लागते.


मुलाचे म्हणणे आहे की प्रार्थनेचे कारण म्हणजे देव सल्ला देत नाही किंवा मुलाला स्वतःहून करू शकेल अशा गोष्टी करत नाही. त्याऐवजी, तो मुलाचे ऐकतो आणि मुलाला स्वतःहून प्रयत्न करण्याची परवानगी देतो. शेवटी, मुलाने पालकांना त्याच्या/तिच्या वळणाची वाट पाहण्याची विनंती केली जर त्याला/तिला बोलायचे असेल आणि मुल ते ऐकेल.
