बिच्छू की रात कविता में, कवि एक बिच्छू काटे माँ के निस्वार्थ प्रेम को व्यक्त करता है। दर्द उसे बहुत तकलीफ देता है लेकिन वह खुश है कि उसके बच्चों को अभी तक बिच्छुओं ने नहीं काटा है। कवि रात को लौटता है जब उसकी माँ को बिच्छू ने काट लिया। इस घटना को सुनकर ग्रामीण परिवार को सांत्वना देने के लिए मछली के झुंड की तरह कवि के घर आ गए। उन्होंने कई बार भगवान से इस दुष्ट प्राणी को रोकने की प्रार्थना की। ग्रामीणों ने दीये और लालटेन लेकर गिलहरी की तलाश शुरू की लेकिन कोई फायदा नहीं हुआ। उन्होंने कई अंधविश्वास फैलाए। उसने देखा कि अगर बिच्छू हिलता है, तो माँ के खून में जहर मिल जाएगा। इसलिए उन्होंने विंचवाला को स्थिर पाया। कुछ ग्रामीणों का मत है कि उसका दुःख अगले जन्म में उसके दुःख को कम कर देगा। ग्रामीणों द्वारा दी गई एक और दार्शनिक व्याख्या यह है कि उसकी पीड़ा उसकी इच्छाओं और महत्वाकांक्षाओं को शुद्ध कर सकती है।

द नाईट ऑफ द स्कॉर्पियन या कवितेत कवीने विंचू चावलेल्या आईचे निस्वार्थ प्रेम व्यक्त केले आहे. या वेदनांनी तिला खूप त्रास होतो पण तिला आनंद आहे की तिच्या मुलांना अजूनही विंचू चावला नाही. कवी रात्री परततो जेव्हा त्याच्या आईला विंचू चावला जातो. ही घटना ऐकून गावकरी कुटुंबाचे सांत्वन करण्यासाठी माशाच्या कळपासारखे कवीच्या घरी आले. दुष्ट प्राण्याला रोखण्यासाठी त्यांनी अनेक वेळा देवाला प्रार्थना केली. दिवे आणि कंदील घेऊन गावकऱ्यांनी त्या गिलहरीचा शोध सुरू केला पण व्यर्थ. त्यांनी अनेक अंधश्रद्धा पसरवल्या. विंचू हलला तर विष आईच्या रक्तात मिसळत असल्याचे निरीक्षण त्यांनी नोंदवले. त्यामुळे त्यांना विंचवाला स्थिर राहण्याची गरज असल्याचे आढळले. काही गावकऱ्यांचे असे मत आहे की तिच्या दुःखामुळे पुढील आयुष्यात तिचे दुःख कमी होईल. गावकऱ्यांनी दिलेले आणखी एक तात्विक स्पष्टीकरण म्हणजे तिच्या वेदनांमुळे तिच्या इच्छा आणि महत्त्वाकांक्षा शुद्ध होऊ शकतात.
