The narrator shares his personal experience. He had to flee his native village due to the communal clash. He traveled to different places and faced difficulties. On reaching Pambupatti, he fainted.

He told that there were many types of people living in the village who followed their respective religions. She was looked after by an old man, who fed her with his hands, rubbed her feet. Neighbors also often used to visit him.

One day he asked Dada about the peaceful coexistence of different religions which was unusual for him. He told her that in his village, communal clashes were a constant feature.

In response to the narrator's question, the old man told him a story and reiterated that he should go back to his village.

The story went on like this. Long ago, there were no animals other than reptiles in Pambhupatti. They had a leader 'Makara', who presided over a monthly meeting of all kinds of reptiles like spirited snakes, thoughtful turtles, clever lizards, moody crocodiles.

Makara was the biggest crocodile and being powerful, he had authority over others as well.

One day he sent a letter to the tortoise to vacate the place. He spoke against them and every other reptile supported him. He further said that the tortoise is slow and stupid. And if they leave, everyone will have more food, water and space.

He gave them a week to go.

In the beginning everyone was happy. Soon, the foul smell was all around in the air as only the tortoise eats that garbage.

Afterwards, Makara issued an order for the snakes to leave the forest, as they could move faster, giving them a day to vacate the place.

The head of the snakes, the Naga pleaded, but Makara cut everyone off as the snakes were a threat to the lives of other reptiles. He argued that snakes were disgusting and made strange sounds.

After a few weeks, their absence was realized as the rats had grown in numbers and were making a ruckus everywhere. They ate the eggs of lizards and crocodiles and did not even spare the capricorn's own nest.

All these events could not prevent Capricorn from taking another disastrous step. He wanted the crocodiles to take over the entire forest by throwing the lizards away. The pathetic reason he gave was that the lizard changes its color.

The crocodiles clapped to appease Capricorn and welcomed the idea. Soon it pursued danger for itself. Frogs and rats were growing out of control. He performed acrobatics on the backs of crocodiles. They were fearless and some even ate the baby crocodile. The situation worsens with each passing day.

Capricorn protested, although it was just a hoarse voice. Yet it was enough for everyone to realize the true value of Capricorn. He sent a message to all the reptiles to return to the forest again for peaceful coexistence. The forest was back to normal.

After narrating the story, Grandfather reassures them that everyone must stick together to rebuild what has been damaged.
