The boy loves to entertain himself with the company of hunters who make their voices from a distant field and the sweet lullaby of Skylark. According to the boy, school is a place where all his happiness and joy goes away.

He was tired of the teachers' rules and direct supervision over it. He has to control himself to enjoy the pleasures of summer and spend hours in the garden where he can learn new things in a better way as he has to spend his entire hours in schooling.

The bird in the cage cannot sing sweet songs, similarly a child can never enjoy the natural instincts of joy and playfulness if he lives under the umbrella of distressing fear and tension, the doubt of his teacher.

In the last verse, he tries to convince his parents that if a child is raised and does not get proper care he cannot grow into a plant of nature. Parents should also understand their mistake. To deprive the child of joy and freedom means a world without spring. In the absence of happy children, we will have winter of sorrows.
