A monkey lived on a tree laden with fruits on the bank of the river. He lived a contented life yet something was lacking. He had no companions to talk to and share the fruits with. Then he met a crocodile. He presented her fruits. The crocodile responded well and told him about himself and his wife. The monkey offered him fresh fruits by plucking it from the nearby branches.

The crocodile liked the taste and asked if he could have some fruit on his next trip. The monkey assured him that he would give fruits to him and his wife too. The friendship between them got stronger day by day.

The crocodile often visited him and enjoyed the delicious fruits. They loved to talk and discuss about birds, animals, villagers, crops etc.

But their friendship broke down. One day when the crocodile came home late, his wife got angry. He shouted at her and asked about her friend. He replied that the monkey was his friend who sent fruits for him.

She wanted to eat his heart. The crocodile rebuked him for such a foolish thought. She was furious and dived to hide herself in deep water. The crocodile was in a dilemma as both were important to him. He gave priority to his wife over friend.

He told her that he would invite the monkey for a meal. The monkey agreed to the offer of the crocodile. He asked the crocodile to take him home on his back as he did not know how to swim at all. In the middle of the river, he reveals the truth. He told him that his wife would eat his heart.

The monkey realized that danger still kept him calm. He made an excuse that he didn't bring his heart along. Then he persuaded her to return to the tree to get his heart back.

When the monkey reached the bank of the river, he jumped on a branch and threw some fruits for the crocodile's wife. He broke the friendship forever. The crocodile became disheartened by the loss of his friend and went back home quietly.
