एक दिन ग्रेट स्टोन फेस अर्नेस्ट पर मुस्कुराया और दयालु देखा। वह स्वेच्छा से उस व्यक्ति की प्रतीक्षा कर रहा था जो ग्रेट स्टोन फेस जैसा दिखता है ताकि वह पत्थर की आवाज सुन सके और उससे बहुत प्यार कर सके।

गैदरगोल्ड नाम का एक आदमी था जो घाटी छोड़कर चला गया था और वह काफी अमीर और लोकप्रिय हो गया था। उन्होंने अपनी मूल घाटी में लौटने का फैसला किया। एक अफवाह थी कि गैदरगोल्ड ग्रेट स्टोन फेस की तरह दिखता था।

ग्रेट स्टोन फेस कवि की तरह लग रहा था। लेकिन कवि ने महसूस किया कि अर्नेस्ट दयालु, सौम्य और बुद्धिमान है। अर्नेस्ट हर शाम अपने पड़ोसी से बात करता था। कवि ने महसूस किया कि अर्नेस्ट की कविता उनकी अपनी कविताओं की तुलना में महान प्रकार की है। तभी कवि ने ग्रेट स्टोन फेस को देखा।
