एक बार लेखक परिवार के साथ ईस्टर की एक बड़ी यात्रा पर इंग्लैंड गया था। जब वे बोस्टन के लोगान हवाई अड्डे पर पहुंचे और चेक-इन कर रहे थे, तो उन्हें अचानक याद आया कि उन्होंने ब्रिटिश एयरवेज के फ़्रीक्वेंट फ़्लायर प्रो को रखा था। कैरी-ऑन बैग में ग्राम जो उसके गले में लटका हुआ था।

लेकिन बैग की जिप जाम हो गई। इसलिए उसने इसे खोलने के लिए अपने बल का प्रयोग किया। इस प्रक्रिया में जिप ने रास्ता दिया और अंदर की हर चीज जैसे अखबार की कटिंग और अन्य ढीले कागज, पाइप तंबाकू का एक टिन आदि बाहर आ गया और एक बड़े क्षेत्र में फैल गया। लेखक को यह भी पता चला कि ज़िप में फंसने के कारण उसकी उंगली बुरी तरह घायल हो गई थी। उंगली से खून बहता देख वह घबरा गया।

लेखक के जीवन में अप्रत्याशित मुसीबतें आती रहीं, खासकर जब वह यात्रा कर रहा था। एक बार एक हवाई जहाज में, जब वह अपने फावड़े को बांधने के लिए झुक रहा था, तो उसके आगे की सीट पर किसी ने उसकी सीट को पूरी तरह से पीछे की ओर फेंक दिया और उसे दुर्घटना की स्थिति में पिन कर दिया।

बड़ी मुश्किल से खुद को छुड़ाया। एक अन्य अवसर पर, उसने एक सह-यात्री पर शीतल पेय गिरा दिया, जो एक महिला थी। फ्लाइट अटेंडेंट ने उसे साफ किया और लेखक को एक और पेय लाया, लेकिन उसने एक बार फिर वही गलती की। महिला बार-बार भीग रही थी और इसलिए नाराज थी।

लेखक स्पष्ट करता है कि ऐसी बातें तभी हुईं जब वह अपने परिवार के साथ उड़ान भर रहा था। जब वह अकेले यात्रा कर रहा था, तो चीजें ठीक थीं क्योंकि उसने अपने फावड़ियों को बांधने के लिए न तो कुछ खाया, न पीया और न ही झुक गया। वह चुपचाप बैठ गया, कभी-कभी अपने हाथों पर उन्हें गलती करने से रोकने के लिए।

Here the author describes his lack of skill during the journey. He finds himself unable to manage things properly and wonders how other people do them without any difficulty. At times he is unable to find the toilet in the cinema hall and stands in the lane of the self-locking door. He also easily forgets his room number in a hotel. He feels that living in the real world is probably the hardest thing to do.

Once the writer went to England with the family on a big Easter trip. When they arrived at Logan Airport in Boston and were checking in, they suddenly remembered that they had hired British Airways' Frequent Flyer Pro. Gram in the carry-on bag that hung around his neck.

But the zip of the bag got jammed. So he used his own force to open it. In the process the zip gave way and everything inside like newspaper cuttings and other loose paper, a tin of pipe tobacco, etc. came out and spread over a large area. The author also came to know that his finger was badly injured due to getting stuck in the zip. He was terrified to see blood oozing from his finger.

Unexpected troubles kept coming in the life of the writer, especially while he was traveling. Once in an airplane, when he was leaning over to tie his shoelace, someone in the seat ahead of him threw his seat all the way back and pinned him in the event of a crash.

With great difficulty he freed himself. On another occasion, he spilled a soft drink on a co-traveller, who was a woman. The flight attendant cleaned it up and brought the writer another drink, but he made the same mistake once again. The woman was getting wet again and again and hence was angry.

But his worst experience was when on an airplane flight he was writing something in a notebook, sucking the end of his pen, and conversing with a woman. After twenty minutes when he went to the washroom, he found that the pen had leaked and had painted his teeth, tongue, gums and chin with dark blue ink.

The writer wanted to be cultured but he never succeeded in his mission. He would sometimes get into an embarrassing situation. His wife was well aware of her husband's nature and hence whenever the food was delivered on the plane, she would instruct her children to take off the lid of the food for daddy to avoid the possibility of any untoward incident.

The author clarifies that such things happened only when he was flying with his family. When he was traveling alone, things were fine as he neither ate, drank, nor bent down to tie his shoelaces. He sat quietly, sometimes on his hands to prevent them from making a mistake.

He was also careless in updating his frequent flyer card. Usually he is not able to find his card on time. On other occasions he forgot to ask for air miles. Sometimes the airline did not record them and informed them that they were not entitled to them.
