തന്നെ ഏറെ ഇഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടിരുന്ന അമ്മൂമ്മയ്‌ക്കൊപ്പം താൻ താമസിച്ചിരുന്ന വീടിനെ കുറിച്ച് കവയിത്രി ഓർമിക്കുന്നു. മുത്തശ്ശി മരിച്ചു, ആ വീട്ടിൽ ആർക്കും താമസിക്കാൻ കഴിയാതെയായി (നിർത്തി). കവയിത്രി അക്കാലത്ത് ഒരു കൊച്ചു പെൺകുട്ടിയായിരുന്നു, വീട്ടിൽ കിടക്കുന്ന പുസ്തകങ്ങൾ വായിക്കാൻ പോലും അറിയില്ലായിരുന്നു. മുത്തശ്ശിയുടെ മരണം ആ കൊച്ചു പെൺകുട്ടിക്ക് അനുഭവിക്കാനുള്ള ശേഷി നഷ്ടപ്പെട്ടു. അവളുടെ ഞരമ്പുകളിലെ രക്തം ഇപ്പോൾ ചൂടുള്ളതല്ലെന്നും ചന്ദ്രനെപ്പോലെ തണുത്തതായും അവൾക്ക് തോന്നി.

കവയിത്രി ഇപ്പോൾ പലപ്പോഴും ആ വീട്ടിലേക്ക് പോകുന്നതിനെക്കുറിച്ച് ചിന്തിക്കുന്നു, അതിനുള്ളിലെ കാര്യങ്ങൾ ജനലിലൂടെ നോക്കാൻ; പക്ഷേ, ജനാലകൾ അടഞ്ഞുകിടക്കുന്നതിനാൽ ഉള്ളിൽ കിടക്കുന്നതൊന്നും അവൾക്ക് കാണാൻ കഴിയുമായിരുന്നില്ല, തീർത്തും നിരാശാജനകമായ ഒരു തോന്നൽ അനുഭവിക്കാൻ മാത്രമേ കഴിയൂ, എന്നിട്ട് ആ സ്ഥലത്ത് നിന്ന് കുറച്ച് ഇരുട്ടുകൾ ശേഖരിച്ച് അവളോടൊപ്പം അവളുടെ കിടപ്പുമുറിയിലേക്ക് കൊണ്ടുവരിക. അവളുടെ ഭൂതകാല സ്മരണകൾ ധ്യാനിക്കാൻ വെറുതെ കിടക്കും. താൻ അങ്ങനെയൊരു വീട്ടിൽ താമസിച്ചിരുന്നെന്നും, സ്വയം അഭിമാനം തോന്നിയെന്നും, ആരുടെയെങ്കിലും (അതായത് തന്റെ മുത്തശ്ശി) സ്‌നേഹം ലഭിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നും തനിക്ക് വിശ്വസിക്കാൻ കഴിഞ്ഞേക്കില്ലെന്ന് ഭർത്താവിനെ അഭിസംബോധന ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ട് കമലാ സുരയ്യ പറയുന്നു. അവൾക്ക് ഇനി ആരിൽ നിന്നും സ്നേഹം ലഭിക്കുന്നില്ല. ഇപ്പോൾ അവൾ അപരിചിതരിൽ നിന്ന് ഒരു ഭിക്ഷക്കാരിയെപ്പോലെ സ്നേഹം തേടുന്നു, ആരിൽ നിന്ന് ചെറിയ സ്നേഹം ലഭിച്ചാലും അവൾക്ക് ആശ്വാസം ലഭിക്കും.

The poetess remembers the house where she lived with her grandmother, whom she loved very much. Grandmother died and no one could stay in that house (stopped). She felt that the blood in her veins was no longer hot and as cold as the moon.
