पहली रात वह फर्श पर सोती थी लेकिन दूसरी रात वह लेखक के बिस्तर पर सोती थी। मिजबिल ने अपने परिवेश में रुचि लेना शुरू कर दिया। मिजबिल को जब बाथरूम में ले जाया गया तो उन्होंने नहाने का आनंद लिया। लेखक जानता था कि ऊदबिलाव पानी के शौकीन होते हैं।

अब मिजबिल पानी के पास जाता था, खुद नल खोलकर नहाने का आनंद लेता था। जल्द ही इसे 'मिज' कहलाने की आदत हो गई। यह अपना अधिकांश समय रबर की गेंद से खेलने में व्यतीत करता था और मनोरंजन के लिए कंचे उसके पसंदीदा खिलौने थे।

बसरा में दिन शांति से बीते। लेखक को वापस आना पड़ा। वह मिज को इंग्लैंड और कैमसफीमा ले जाने की संभावना से डरता था। उन्हें दूसरी एयरलाइन में एक फ्लाइट बुक करनी पड़ी क्योंकि ब्रिटिश एयरलाइन जानवरों को लंदन नहीं ले जाएगी।

विमान में, एयर होस्टेस में से एक ने लेखक के साथ सहयोग किया और उसे पालतू जानवर को अपने घुटने पर रखने की सलाह दी।

Gavin Maxwell lives in a cottage in Camasfima in the West Highlands of Scotland. He had a pet dog Johnny.

When Johnny died, he was deeply saddened to think of having a dog again. But life was lonely without a pet. So he decided to have another pet. He didn't want to have a dog. He thought he would have an otter instead of a dog. He shared this idea with his friend, who immediately supported him and suggested bringing one to the Tigris swamp.

The author found a sack from two Arabs at his residence in southern Iraq. There was a beaver in the sack.

It was a small creature like a small dragon. It was covered with mud from head to tail. The author named it 'Mizbil'. For the first twenty four hours it was neither hostile nor friendly. He was just aloof and apathetic.

The first night she slept on the floor but the second night she slept on the writer's bed. Mizbil began to take an interest in his surroundings. When Mizbil was taken to the bathroom, he enjoyed taking a bath. The author knew that otters are fond of water.

Now Mizbil used to go near the water, enjoying himself by opening the tap and taking a bath. Soon it became a habit to be called 'midge'. He spent most of his time playing with a rubber ball and marbles were his favorite toy for fun.

Days passed peacefully in Basra. The author had to come back. He feared the prospect of taking The Miz to England and Camusfima. He had to book a flight with another airline because the British airline would not take the animals to London.

The airline advised that the midge should be packaged in a box. The writer had a box made up, put Midge in it an hour before she left for the airport, so that Midge would get used to it and go for a meal. When he returned, there was silence in the box.

He saw blood coming from the airhole. He opened it and blood splattered. Miz whispered and grabbed his leg. There was no time so the author put it back in the compartment and hurriedly left for the airport.

On the plane, one of the air hostess collaborated with the author and advised him to put the pet on his knee.

But soon there was chaos in the plane. The otter disappeared at high speed under the plane. There was shouting and screaming all around. The author tried to find him. The air hostess helped him in the search. Otter was back with the author.

The writer lived in London for about a month. Midge used to play with different toys for hours. The authors used to take the otters out for exercise and walks. Passed through both streets. People in London did not recognize a beaver. He guessed what kind of animal it was. The author was faced with a stream of questions full of guesswork.
