वह उसे अपने कुत्ते को मुक्त न रखने के लिए भी कहती है, क्योंकि यह उसके यार्ड को खोदता है और उसे गंदा करता है। उसके कचरे के थैले के पास अख़बारों का ढेर देखकर वह उसे सलाह देता है कि उन कागज़ों और एल्युमिनियम के डिब्बे को बचा कर रख लें, ताकि नए कागज़ और एल्युमीनियम बनाए जा सकें। वह श्रीमती ग्रीन से पारिस्थितिकी के बारे में कुछ करने की कोशिश करते-करते थक जाता है। फिर वह मिस्टर जॉन्सन के घर जाता है, जो डाकघर जाने की तैयारी कर रहा है, जो कि उसकी कार से वहां से केवल दो ब्लॉक की दूरी पर स्थित है। जिम ने उसे पारिस्थितिकी को बचाने के लिए इतनी कम दूरी तक कार से न जाने के लिए कहा। लेकिन वह उससे सहमत नहीं है। साथ ही वह उसे (जिम) एक पेड़ और घास को हर दिन उनके ऊपर दौड़कर मारने के लिए दोषी ठहराता है, श्रीमती ग्रीन के घर के माध्यम से एक छोटा रास्ता बना देता है। लेकिन लंबी चर्चा के कारण श्रीमती जॉनसन पोस्ट ऑफिस नहीं जाती हैं। जिम इस पर संतोष महसूस करता है क्योंकि उसने उसे अपनी कार से कम से कम एक बार प्रदूषित नहीं करने के लिए कहा।

Joan Lexou wonderfully brings to the fore how the issue of protecting the environment and saving the ecology is very sensitive and difficult, although it is essential for our survival.

Everyone is in favor of saving the ecology but no one wants to do anything about it. Jim, a young boy has taken up the task of walking around and asking people to preserve the environment and save the ecology. Though he gets very little time from his homework, he has set aside Saturdays to meet people to fulfill his mission. He discussed with them the importance of conserving the environment. He also collected dirt and garbage from the many houses he used to visit. His eco-friendly attitude is commendable.

One Saturday he goes to Mr. William's house. He finds Mr. William burning leaves in the backyard. He pays some amount to Jim. Jim suggests him make a compost pile out of leaves, garbage, and other items, which are good for the garden. Mr. William disagrees with them and accuses them of foul smell emanating from their manure, which causes pollution in the nose. It hurts his sentiment. But he goes ahead without getting discouraged and goes to meet Mrs. Green. Seeing him she immediately blames him for throwing the glue wrappers on his lawn and instructs him (Jim) to put them in plastic bags.

She also tells him not to let his dog run free, as it digs up his yard and makes it dirty. Seeing a pile of newspapers beside her garbage bag, he advises her to save those paper and aluminum cans so that new paper and aluminum can be made. He gets tired of trying to do something about ecology to Mrs. Green. He then heads to Mr. Johnson's house, preparing to go to the post office, which is only two blocks from there by his car. Jim asked him not to travel such a short distance by car to save the ecology. But she does not agree with him. Simultaneously he blames him (Jim) for hitting a tree and grass by running over them every day, making a short path through Mrs. Green's house. But because of the lengthy discussion, Mrs. Johnson does not go to the post office. Jim feels satisfied with this as he asks her not to pollute his car at least once.

Then at last he returns to his home because he thinks this ecology, work is too boring. When he enters his house, he finds his mother using an electric mixer. He asks her to work with his egg beater to save electricity. She ironically immediately answers why he watches TV for twenty-seven hours a day, which is also a waste of electricity. Jim thinks no one is willing to do anything about ecology. He is the one who works on the issue of saving the ecology.

Thus the present lesson teaches us that it is easy to preach about ecology but difficult to obey the laws of conservation of ecology.
