कवि थॉमस स्टर्न्स एलियट टीएस एलियट ने 'मैकविटी' 'द मिस्ट्री कैट' की रचना की है जो उनकी वश में बिल्ली के बारे में है। वह बताता है कि उसकी बिल्ली बहुत चालाक है। यह (बिल्ली) बहुत लंबा और पतला होता है। अपनी चतुराई के कारण इसे हिडन पास कहा जाता है। इसकी उत्तोलन की शक्तियाँ एक फ़कीरतारा बना देंगी। यह हमेशा दूध पीने, कांच तोड़ने जैसे अपराध करता है। यह हमारे दृष्टिकोण के भीतर हर जगह जाता है।

कवि कहता है कि जब वह अपराध करता है तो वह वहाँ कभी नहीं रहता। यह सभी को धोखा देता है लेकिन कभी कुछ पीछे नहीं छोड़ता। यह अन्य बिल्लियों की तरह नहीं है। यह एक स्मार्ट बिल्ली है और यह हमेशा रहस्यमयी चीजें करती है। इसने हमेशा गलतियाँ और अपराध किए लेकिन कभी भी वहाँ प्रस्तुत नहीं किया गया। यह सभी को आकर्षित करता है। यह कवि को उसके व्यक्तित्व से आकर्षित करता है। कोई अन्य बिल्ली Macavity की तरह नहीं है। यह व्यंग्य लय में रचित एक हल्की कविता है।
