तो भारत में बुद्धिजीवी बेचैन और कड़वे थे, और मैं घंटों बैठी उनकी जलती हुई काली आँखों को देखता रहा।

Where the period of patronage of the people seemed endless and self-government progressed every year. 'When you are ready for freedom, the victors have always said to their subjects etc! But who is going to decide when that moment will come and how can people learn to rule themselves other than do it?

So the intellectuals in India were restless and bitter, and I sat for hours watching their burning black eyes.
