मूर्खों का राज्य था। इस राज्य में राजा और मंत्री दोनों मूर्ख थे। उन्होंने सब कुछ उलट दिया और अपने लोगों को न्याय से वंचित कर दिया। उन्होंने दिन को रात में और रात को दिन में बदल दिया। उन्होंने अपने लोगों को दिन में सोने और अंधेरा होने के बाद ही काम करने का आदेश दिया। जो कोई भी इस आदेश की अवहेलना करेगा उसे मौत के घाट उतार दिया जाएगा। लोगों ने उसी के अनुसार किया।

एक दिन, दो आदमी, एक गुरु और उनके शिष्य ने राज्य का दौरा किया और सब कुछ उल्टा पाया। लोगों को दिन के उजाले में सोते देख वे हैरान रह गए। और जब अंधेरा फैल गया, तो सभी सक्रिय हो गए।

उनका आश्चर्य दोगुना हो गया जब वे बाजार गए और पाया कि हर चीज की कीमत समान है, एक जज। गुरु और उनके शिष्य खुश थे क्योंकि व्यवस्था ने उन्हें एक रुपये में अपनी जरूरत का सारा खाना खरीदने की अनुमति दे दी थी।

गुरु एक बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति थे। उसने अपने शिष्यों से कहा कि मूर्खों के राज्य में रहना उनके लिए सुरक्षित नहीं होगा। लेकिन शिष्य जगह छोड़ने को तैयार नहीं था क्योंकि वहां अच्छा और सस्ता खाना उपलब्ध था। तो, गुरु ने राज्य छोड़ दिया और शिष्य वहीं रहा। खाने के बहुत अच्छे शौक़ीन होने के कारण वह हर दिन भरपेट खाना खाते थे और कुछ ही दिनों में मोटे हो जाते थे।

एक दिन एक चोर एक अमीर व्यापारी के घर की दीवार में बड़ा सा छेद करके घुस गया। लेकिन जैसे ही वह चोरी का सामान लेकर बाहर जा रहा था, पुराने घर की दीवार उसके सिर पर गिर गई और उसकी मौके पर ही मौत हो गई। चोर का भाई दौड़ता हुआ राजा के पास आया और उसने उस व्यापारी को एक अच्छी और मजबूत दीवार न बनाने के लिए दंडित करने की याचना की। व्यापारी को राजा के सामने लाया गया।

राजा ने मामला सुना और उसे (व्यापारी) चोर की मौके पर मौत का दोषी पाया। लेकिन व्यापारी ने दीवार बनाने वाले ईंट बनाने वाले पर दोष मढ़ दिया। ईंट बनाने वाले ने राजा से उस नाचने वाली लड़की को दंडित करने का अनुरोध किया, जिसने पूरे दिन उस गली में अपनी पायल झनझनाते हुए उसका ध्यान भटकाया। नाचने वाली लड़की, अब एक बूढ़ी औरत को दरबार में लाया गया। उसने सारा दोष सुनार पर मढ़ दिया।

उसने राजा से कहा कि उसने सुनार को उसके लिए कुछ गहने बनाने के लिए कुछ सोना दिया था। लेकिन उसने काम में देर कर दी और उसे कई बार अपने घर ऊपर-नीचे किया। सुनार को राजा के सामने पेश किया गया। अपने खिलाफ आरोप सुनने के बाद, उन्होंने कहा कि उन्हें पहले एक अमीर व्यापारी के आदेशों में शामिल होना था क्योंकि उनके परिवार में एक शादी समारोह था।

इसलिए, उसने कई बार नाचने वाली लड़की को अपने दरवाजे पर आने के लिए मजबूर किया। राजा ने व्यापारी का नाम पूछा। वह कोई और नहीं बल्कि वह व्यापारी था जिसकी दीवार गिर गई थी। व्यापारी ने अपने पिता को दोषी ठहराया जिन्होंने गहने का आदेश दिया था। लेकिन पिता अब इस दुनिया में नहीं रहे, इसलिए उनके स्थान पर व्यापारी को दंड देने का निर्णय लिया गया। निष्पादन के लिए तैयार होने के लिए एक नई हिस्सेदारी का आदेश दिया गया था।

लेकिन व्यापारी इतना पतला था कि दांव पर नहीं लगा। तो, एक मोटे आदमी की तलाश की गई। नौकर की नज़र उस शिष्य पर पड़ी जो महीनों से केले और चावल और गेहूँ और घी पर चपटा था। उसने राजा से विनती की कि वह निर्दोष है लेकिन किसी काम का नहीं है। जब वे मृत्यु की प्रतीक्षा कर रहे थे, उन्हें अपने गुरु की याद आई, जिन्होंने उनकी दृष्टि में सब कुछ देखा। उन्हें जादुई शक्तियों का आशीर्वाद प्राप्त था।

वह अपने शिष्य को बचाने के लिए एक बार पहुंचे। उसने अपने शिष्य के कानों में कुछ फुसफुसाया। तब उसने राजा से अनुरोध किया कि वह उसे पहले सूली पर चढ़ा दे। जब शिष्य ने यह सुना, तो उसने कहा कि उसे पहले वहाँ लाया गया था, इसलिए पहले उसे मार डाला जाए।

राजा को गुरु और उसके शिष्य के बीच इस मुद्दे पर लड़ाई देखकर आश्चर्य हुआ कि पहले किसे फांसी दी जानी चाहिए। जब राजा ने उनसे इसका कारण पूछा, तो गुरु ने झिझकते हुए कहा कि जो भी पहले दाँव पर मरेगा, उसका जन्म उस देश के राजा के रूप में होगा।

जो आगे मरेगा वह उस देश का मंत्री होगा। राजा हैरान रह गया। वह अगले जन्म में राज्य को किसी और के हाथों खोना नहीं चाहता था। इसलिए, उन्होंने अपने मंत्री के साथ इस मामले पर चर्चा की और अंत में वे इस निष्कर्ष पर पहुंचे कि उन्हें राजा और मंत्री के रूप में पुनर्जन्म लेने के लिए दांव पर लगना चाहिए। इसलिए, वे गुप्त रूप से जेल गए और गुरु और उनके शिष्य को मुक्त कर दिया।

फिर उन्होंने खुद को दोनों के रूप में प्रच्छन्न किया और खुद को मार डाला। लोगों ने अब गुरु और उनके शिष्यों को क्रमशः अपना राजा और मंत्री बना लिया और एक सामान्य जीवन व्यतीत करने लगे।

It was a kingdom of fools. In this kingdom both the king and the minister were fools. He reversed everything and denied justice to his people. He turned day into night and night into day. He ordered his men to sleep during the day and work only after dark. Whoever disobeys this order will be put to death. People did accordingly.

One day, two men, a guru and his disciple visited the kingdom and found everything turned upside down. He was surprised to see people sleeping in broad daylight. And when darkness spread, everyone became active.

His surprise was doubled when he went to the market and found that everything costs the same, a judge. The Guru and his disciples were happy because the system had allowed them to buy all the food they needed for one rupee.

Guru was a wise man. He told his disciples that it would not be safe for them to live in the kingdom of fools. But the disciple was not ready to leave the place as good and cheap food was available there. So, the Guru left the kingdom and the disciple remained there. Being a very good food lover, he used to eat a lot of food every day and became fat in a few days.

One day a thief entered the house of a rich merchant by making a big hole in the wall. But as he was going out with the stolen goods, the wall of the old house fell on his head and he died on the spot. The thief's brother came running to the king and begged him to punish the merchant for not building a good and strong wall. The merchant was brought before the king.

The king heard the matter and found him (the merchant) guilty of killing the thief on the spot. But the merchant put the blame on the bricklayer who built the wall. The bricklayer requested the king to punish the dancing girl who distracted her all day by twirling her anklets in that street. The dancing girl, now an old woman, was brought to the court. He put all the blame on the goldsmith.

He told the king that he had given some gold to the goldsmith to make some ornaments for him. But he delayed the work and carried him up and down his house several times. The goldsmith was presented before the king. After hearing the charges against him, he said that he had to first attend the orders of a wealthy merchant as there was a marriage ceremony in his family.

So, he forced the dancing girl to come to his door several times. The king asked the name of the merchant. He was none other than the merchant whose wall had fallen. The merchant blamed his father who had ordered the jewelry. But the father was no longer in this world, so it was decided to punish the merchant in his place. A new stake was ordered to be ready for execution.

But the merchant was so thin that there was no bet. So, a search was made for a fat man. The servant's gaze fell on the disciple who had for months flattered on bananas and rice and wheat and ghee. He pleaded with the king that he was innocent but of no use. While he was waiting for death, he remembered his master, who saw everything in his sight. He was blessed with magical powers.

He reached once to save his disciple. He whispered something in the ear of his disciple. Then he requested the king to crucify him first. When the disciple heard this, he said that he was brought there first, so he should be killed first.

The king was surprised to see a fight between the guru and his disciple over the issue of who should be hanged first. When the king asked him the reason, the guru hesitated and said that whoever dies at the first stake, will be born as the king of that country.

Whoever dies next will be the minister of that country. The king was surprised. He did not want to lose the kingdom to someone else in the next life. So, he discussed the matter with his minister and finally he came to the conclusion that he should be at stake to be reincarnated as king and minister. Therefore, he went to jail in secret and freed the Guru and his disciple.

Then they disguised themselves as both and killed themselves. The people now made the guru and his disciples their kings and ministers respectively and started leading a normal life.
