लेखक सोचता है कि डायरी में लिखना एक अजीब अनुभव है। वह सोचती है कि एक तेरह वर्षीय स्कूली छात्रा के विचारों में कोई दिलचस्पी नहीं लेगा। उसने सब कुछ छोड़कर लिखने की सोची। उस समय लेखक कुछ अवसाद और निराशा महसूस कर रहा था।

उसने यह कहावत सोची- 'कागज में लोगों से ज्यादा धैर्य होता है'। फिर उसने लिखना शुरू किया लेकिन उसे एक सच्चे दोस्त की जरूरत थी जो एक डायरी से ज्यादा नहीं हो सकता।

लेखिका का कहना है कि किसी को विश्वास नहीं होता कि यह लड़की दुनिया में अकेली है लेकिन वह अकेली नहीं है। उसके प्यारे माता-पिता, एक बहन और तीस अन्य लोग हैं। उसके एक सच्चे दोस्त को छोड़कर उसका एक अच्छा परिवार है। दोस्तों के साथ वह अच्छा समय बिता सकती है।

वह साधारण रोजमर्रा की चीजों के बारे में बात कर सकती है लेकिन वह और करीब नहीं होगी। यहाँ तक कि हम एक दूसरे पर विश्वास भी नहीं कर सकते क्योंकि लिखित तथ्यों को बदला नहीं जा सकता। इसलिए लेखक ने डायरी लिखना शुरू कर दिया है। यह उसका चिरस्थायी मित्र है। वह इस दोस्त को 'किट्टी' कहती है।

ऐनी कहती हैं कि उनके पिता सबसे प्यारे इंसान थे। छत्तीस साल की उम्र में उन्होंने ऐनी की मां एडिथ से शादी की। 1929 में उनकी बहन मार्गोट का जन्म हुआ। तब उनका जन्म 12 जून 1929 को हुआ था और वे जर्मनी में रहते थे। 1933 में, उनके पिता हॉलैंड चले गए।

वह मार्गोट के साथ दादी के साथ रहने के लिए आचेन चली गई। दिसंबर तक दोनों बहनें हॉलैंड चली गईं। वहाँ ऐनी को मार्गोट के जन्मदिन के उपहार के रूप में मेज पर रखा गया था। वहां उन्होंने मोंटेसरी नर्सरी स्कूल में शुरुआत की।

ऐनी अपनी दादी से बहुत प्यार करती थी। 1941 की गर्मियों में वह बीमार पड़ गईं। उनका ऑपरेशन हुआ था लेकिन जनवरी 1942 में उनकी मृत्यु हो गई। उनकी मृत्यु और भी अधिक तकलीफदेह थी। ऐनी के जन्मदिन समारोह में, दादी के लिए एक अलग मोमबत्ती जलाई गई थी।

कुछ छात्रों ने दांव लगाया है और अपनी सारी बचत दांव पर लगा दी है। ऐनी सोचती है कि वह 'पास' हो जाएगी लेकिन गणित के कारण उसे यकीन नहीं है। सभी एक-दूसरे को हिम्मत न हारने के लिए कहते रहे हैं।

नौ शिक्षक हैं। मिस्टर कीसिंग गणित पढ़ाते हैं। वह ऐनी के बातूनी स्वभाव के कारण उससे नाराज रहता है। इसलिए उन्होंने उसे 'एक चैटरबॉक्स' पर एक निबंध लिखने के लिए कुछ अतिरिक्त काम दिया है। गृहकार्य के बाद ऐनी निबंध पर विचार करने लगी।

उसके दिमाग में एक विचार कौंधा। उसने लिखा कि बात करना एक छात्र का गुण है और वह इसे नियंत्रित करने की पूरी कोशिश करेगी। लेकिन वह अपनी आदत से खुद को ठीक नहीं कर पाएगी क्योंकि उसकी माँ भी बातूनी थी। इसलिए विरासत में मिले लक्षणों से आगे बढ़ना नहीं हो सका।

उसका तर्क सुनकर मिस्टर कीसिंग को अच्छी हंसी आई। फिर शिक्षिका ने उसे एक और निबंध 'एन इनकॉरिजिबल चैटरबॉक्स' दिया। इस प्रकार दो पाठ पारित हुए। तीसरे पाठ के दौरान, उसने उसे 'क्वैक, क्वैक, क्वैक, सेड मिस्ट्रेस चैटरबॉक्स' पर लिखने के लिए कहा।

ऐनी ने कक्षा में कविता पढ़ी। इसमें कहा गया है कि तीन बत्तखों के साथ एक माँ बतख और एक पिता हंस था। बत्तखों को पिता ने काटकर मार डाला था क्योंकि उन्होंने बहुत अधिक बत्तख काटा था। यह ऐनी का सौभाग्य था कि शिक्षक ने इसे सही तरीके से लिया।

शिक्षक ने कविता पढ़ी, अपनी टिप्पणी दी। उसके बाद ऐनी को बात करने की अनुमति दी गई और कोई अतिरिक्त काम नहीं दिया गया। तभी से मिस्टर कीसिंग भी मजाक बनाने लगे।

She can talk about simple everyday things but she won't be close any more. Even we cannot trust each other because written facts cannot be changed. So the author has started writing a diary. This is his everlasting friend. She calls this dude 'Kitty'.

Anne says that her father was the dearest person. At the age of thirty-six he married Edith, Anne's mother. In 1929 his sister Margot was born. Then he was born on 12 June 1929 and lived in Germany. In 1933, his father moved to Holland.

She moved to Aachen to live with her grandmother, along with Margot. By December, both sisters had moved to Holland. There Anne was placed on the table as a birthday present for Margot. There he started at Montessori Nursery School.

When she was in the sixth grade, Mrs Kuperas was her headmistress. There was a farewell ceremony at the end of the year. The separation from the headmistress was filled with tears.

Anne loved her grandmother very much. She fell ill in the summer of 1941. He was operated upon but died in January 1942. His death was even more painful. At Anne's birthday celebrations, a separate candle was lit for Grandma.

Anne wrote in her diary that the four members were doing well. She was very devoted to her diary. Anne wrote of this incident on a Saturday, June 20, 1942. Anne mentions Kitty in her diary. Referring to him, she writes that the whole class is nervous about going to her next form.

Some students have placed bets and put all their savings at stake. Anne thinks she will 'pass' but is not sure because of the math. Everyone has been telling each other not to give up.

There are nine teachers. Mr. Keesing teaches mathematics. He is angry with Anne because of her talkative nature. So they have given him some extra work to write an essay on 'A Chatterbox'. After the homework, Anne began to consider the essay.

A thought flashed in his mind. She wrote that talking is a student's quality and she will do her best to control it. But she would not be able to cure herself from her habit as her mother was also talkative. Therefore passing on the inherited traits could not happen.

Hearing his reasoning, Mr. Keesing had a good laugh. Then the teacher gave him another essay, 'An Incredible Chatterbox'. Thus two lessons were passed. During the third lesson, he asked her to write 'Quack, Quack, Quack, Said Mistress Chatterbox'.

It was a punishment of sorts for Anne for talking in class. The whole class roared at this point. Anne laughed too. However, Anne was tired of this essay. In a way the teacher was making fun of him but in other words it was a joke on him. So he wrote this essay like a poem.

Anne read poetry in class. It states that there was a mother duck and a father goose with three ducks. The ducks were killed by the father because he had slaughtered too many ducks. It was Anne's good fortune that the teacher took it the right way.

The teacher read the poem, gave his comment. After that Anne was allowed to speak and no extra work was given. Since then Mr. Keesing also started making jokes.
