जो मॉर्गन डॉक्टर एंड्रयू का इंतजार कर रहे थे
डॉ एंड्रयू ने हाल ही में मेडिकल कॉलेज से स्नातक किया था। वह ब्लैनली नामक एक छोटे से वेल्श खनन शहर में डॉ एडवर्ड पेज के सहायक के रूप में अभ्यास कर रहे थे। एक रात वह घर लौट रहा था जब उसने देखा कि जो मॉर्गन डॉक्टर के घर के बाहर उसका इंतजार कर रहा था। वह वहां एक घंटे से अधिक समय से था। वह डॉक्टर को देखने के लिए आराम से लग रहा था। उन्होंने बताया कि उनके घर पर डॉक्टर की जरूरत थी क्योंकि उनकी पत्नी शादी के लगभग 20 साल बाद बच्चे को जन्म देने की उम्मीद कर रही थी। डॉ एंड्रयू ने उसे कुछ मिनट प्रतीक्षा करने के लिए कहा। वह अंदर गया, अपना मेडिकल बैग लिया और जो मॉर्गन के घर के लिए निकल पड़ा।

सुसान की माँ ने उसे एक कप चाय की पेशकश की। इसलिए, डॉ एंड्रयू को लगा कि वह उसे नहीं छोड़ना चाहती, क्योंकि कुछ प्रतीक्षा अवधि होगी। डॉ एंड्रयू थक गया था लेकिन फिर भी रहने का फैसला किया।

भयावह दुविधा
एक घंटे के कठोर संघर्ष के बाद, बच्चे का जन्म हुआ, एक पूर्ण रूप से निर्मित लड़का। दुर्भाग्य से, उसकी सांस नहीं चल रही थी। डॉ एंड्रू के ऊपर से एक भयानक सिहरन छा गई। उसने परिवार से इतना वादा किया था। वह बच्चे को पुनर्जीवित करना चाहता था, लेकिन माँ खुद बहुत हताश अवस्था में थी। उसने बच्चे को दाई को दे दिया और उसका ध्यान माँ सुसान मॉर्गन की ओर लगाया, जो बेहोश पड़ी थी। उसकी नब्ज धीमी थी और उसकी ताकत कम हो रही थी।

बच्चे को बचाने के लिए डॉ एंड्रयू के प्रयास
डॉ एंड्रयू ने एक मामले को याद किया जो उन्होंने एक बार सामरी (एक चिकित्सा पत्रिका) में देखा था और जो उपचार दिया गया था। उसने दाई से कहा कि जल्दी से दो कटोरी में गर्म पानी और ठंडा पानी लाओ।

उसने बच्चे को एक बार बर्फीले पानी में और फिर बारी-बारी से भाप वाले स्नान में डुबाना शुरू किया। पंद्रह मिनट बीत गए और कुछ नहीं हुआ। डॉ एंड्रयू निराश हो रहा था। वह दाई और बूढ़ी औरत के अविश्वासी चेहरों को देख सकता था लेकिन उसने अपने प्रयास जारी रखे।

डॉ एंड्रयू ने बच्चे की छाती को खुरदुरे तौलिये से रगड़ना शुरू किया और उसकी नन्ही सी छाती को थपथपाते हुए उस लंगड़े शरीर में सांस लेने की कोशिश की।

फिर मानो चमत्कार से बच्चे का सीना हिलने लगा। डॉ एंड्रयू अपने हाथों के नीचे जीवन के स्थान पर कमजोर और घबराया हुआ महसूस कर रहा था। उसने अपने प्रयासों को दोगुना कर दिया और बच्चा अब सांस ले रहा था। उसके अंगों में जान आ गई, सिर सीधा हो गया, बच्चे की त्वचा गुलाबी होने लगी और अचानक बच्चा रोने लगा।

दाई ने आंखों में खुशी के आंसू लिए कहा, 'हे भगवान, वह जीवित हो गया है।'

डॉ एंड्रयू को राहत मिली है
इतने उन्मत्त प्रयास और सफलता के बाद, डॉ एंड्रयू कमजोर और अवाक महसूस कर रहे थे। बूढ़ी औरत, सुसान की माँ, अभी भी दीवार के खिलाफ खड़ी थी, प्रार्थना कर रही थी।

एंड्रयू नीचे गया और कहा कि वह बाद में अपना बैग लाएगा। उसने पाया कि जो मॉर्गन अभी भी एक उत्सुक, उत्सुक चेहरे के साथ प्रतीक्षा कर रहा है। डॉ एंड्रयू ने खुशखबरी दी कि मां और बच्चा दोनों ठीक हैं।

Joe Morgan was waiting for Dr Andrew
Dr Andrew had recently graduated from medical college. He was practicing as an assistant to Dr. Edward Page in a small Welsh mining town called Blanley. One night he was returning home when he saw Joe Morgan waiting for him outside the doctor's house. He was there for over an hour. He seemed at ease to see the doctor. He told that a doctor was needed at his home as his wife was expecting to give birth to a child after almost 20 years of marriage. Dr. Andrew told her to wait a few minutes. He went in, took his medical bag and left for Joe Morgan's house.

The case demanded all the attention of Dr. Andrew
Joe Morgan stopped outside the house and requested Doctor Andrew to go inside alone. Through a narrow staircase the doctor reached a small, clean but less furnished room. They found two women next to the patient, Susan Morgan's mother, a tall, gray-haired woman of about seventy, and an elderly midwife.

Susan's mother offered her a cup of tea. So, Dr. Andrew felt she didn't want to leave him, as there would be some waiting period. Dr. Andrew was tired but decided to stay nonetheless.

An hour later, Doctor Andrew went to examine the patient and came downstairs. Joe Morgan's restless footsteps could be heard as he walked down the street.

Dr. Andrew's mind wandered
Dr. Andrew was so deep in his thoughts that he was startled by the voice of the old woman (Susan Morgan's mother). He told her that his daughter didn't want him to give her chloroform if she harmed the child. Dr Andrew replied that it would do no harm. Then she heard the midwife's voice. It was half past three and Dr. Andrew felt it was time for him to start working on the delivery.

dreadful dilemma
After an hour of hard struggle, the child was born, a fully built boy. Unfortunately, he was not breathing. A terrible shiver fell over Dr. Andrew. He had promised so much to the family. He wanted to revive the child, but the mother herself was in a very desperate state. He gave the baby to the midwife and turned her attention to the mother, Susan Morgan, who was lying unconscious. His pulse was slow and his strength was waning.

After a few minutes of continuous effort, he gave her an injection and stabilized her. Then he asked for the child. The midwife had put the child under the bed considering it to be dead. Dr. Andrew pulled the child out. His head was hanging loose and his limbs seemed weak. They concluded that the child was suffering from asphyxia pallida (an uncommon medical condition in the newborn).

Dr. Andrew's efforts to save the child
Dr. Andrew recalls a case he once saw in Samaritan (a medical journal) and the treatment he was given. She told the midwife to quickly bring hot water and cold water in two bowls.

She began by immersing the child once in the icy water and then alternately in the steam bath. Fifteen minutes passed and nothing happened. Dr. Andrew was getting frustrated. He could see the unbelieving faces of the midwife and the old woman but he continued his efforts.

Miracle
Dr. Andrew began to rub the baby's chest with a rough towel and, patting his little chest, tried to breathe into the limp body.

Then as if by miracle the chest of the child started moving. Dr. Andrew felt weak and terrified with the place of life beneath his hands. He doubled his efforts and the child was now breathing. His limbs came to life, the head straightened, the baby's skin turned pink and suddenly the child started crying.

The midwife said with tears of joy in her eyes, 'Oh my God, he is alive.'

Dr. Andrew is relieved
After so much frantic effort and success, Dr. Andrew was feeling weak and speechless. The old woman, Susan's mother, was still standing against the wall, praying.

Andrew went downstairs and said he would bring his bag later. He found Joe Morgan still waiting with a curious, curious face. Dr Andrew gave the good news that both mother and baby are fine.

Andrew was really happy and said, 'Oh my god, I've finally done something real.' He had achieved a feat in medical history which would surely brighten his future.
