इस कविता में कवि चिड़ियाघर में एक बाघ की तुलना उसके प्राकृतिक आवास में रहने वाले लोगों से करता है। कवि चिड़ियाघर से जंगल तक का वर्णन शुरू करता है, और फिर से चिड़ियाघर में वापस आता है। स्थिति में बहुत अंतर है।

जब वह जंगल में होता है और जब वह प्राकृतिक परिवेश में चिड़ियाघर में होता है तो वह बहुत खुश होता है, लेकिन पिंजरे में वह बेचैन और उग्र होता है।
