इस कविता में, कवयित्री हमें उत्तरभूमि की एक कहानी सुनाती है। उस समय संत पीटर पृथ्वी पर रहते थे। वे रास्ते में जिन लोगों से मिलते थे, उन्हें उपदेश देने के लिए वे दुनिया भर में जाते थे। एक दिन, वह एक झोपड़ी के दरवाजे पर आया जहाँ एक छोटी औरत केक बना रही थी और उन्हें चूल्हे पर पका रही थी। संत पतरस ने पूरे दिन कुछ भी नहीं खाया था। ऐसे में वह भूख से बेहोश हो रहा था।

उसने महिला से केक का एक टुकड़ा देने को कहा। औरत लालची और स्वार्थी थी। किसी को कुछ देना उसके लिए बहुत मुश्किल काम था। वह जो केक बना रही थी वह बहुत बड़ा लग रहा था। इसलिए उसने भूखे संत के लिए एक छोटा सा केक बनाया। लेकिन वह भी देने के लिए बहुत बड़ा लग रहा था। तो उसने एक और बनाया जो पहले से भी छोटा था। लेकिन जब वह तैयार हो गया तो वह बड़ा लग रहा था इसलिए उसने उसे भी नहीं दिया। फिर उसने आटे का एक बहुत ही छोटा टुकड़ा लिया और उसे समतल कर दिया।

उसके पास वेफर जितना पतला था लेकिन वह इस केक के साथ भाग लेने और इसे शेल्फ पर रखने के लिए बहुत लालची थी। इसने सेंट पीटर को बहुत नाराज किया। उसने लालची महिला से कहा कि वह मानव रूप में दुनिया में रहने और भोजन और आश्रय और आग की गर्मी का आनंद लेने के लिए उपयुक्त नहीं है। उसने उसे शाप दिया और उसे एक कठफोड़वा में बदल दिया, जिसे अपना कम भोजन पाने के लिए सूखी लकड़ी में कड़ी मेहनत करनी पड़ती है। उसे उस लकड़ी में देखा जा सकता है जहाँ वह अभी भी रहती है और पूरे दिन अपने भोजन के लिए पेड़ों को ढोती रहती है।

In this poem, the poetess tells us a story from the Uttarbhumi. At that time Saint Peter lived on earth. He traveled around the world to preach to the people he met along the way. One day, he came to the door of a hut where a little lady was making cakes and baking them on the stove. Saint Peter had not eaten anything for the whole day. So he was fainting from hunger.

He asked the woman to give him a piece of cake. The woman was greedy and selfish. It was very difficult for him to give something to someone. The cake she was making looked huge. So he made a small cake for the hungry saint. But that also seemed too big to give. So he made another one that was even smaller than the first. But when he got ready he looked big so he didn't give it to her either. Then he took a very small piece of dough and flattened it.

She had as thin as a wafer but she was too greedy to part with this cake and put it on the shelf. This greatly angered St. Peter. He told the greedy woman that she was not fit to live in the world in human form and to enjoy food and shelter and the heat of fire. He cursed her and turned her into a woodpecker, who has to work hard in dry wood to get her little food. She can be seen in the wood where she still lives and carries her food to the trees throughout the day.
