जैसा कि प्रथागत था, ईद के अवसर पर लेखक के गाँव में मेला लगता था। यह कई दिनों तक चला। विभिन्न आकारों में विभिन्न प्रकार के सामान बेचने की अस्थायी दुकानें स्थापित की गईं।

एक बार कथाकार को अपने चाचा और भैया के साथ मेले में जाने का अवसर मिला। मेले में चाचा अपने दोस्तों से मिले और उनके साथ समय बिताना चाहते थे। इसलिए उसने लड़के से मेले के चारों ओर देखने को कहा और उसे वहाँ से कुछ भी न खरीदने का निर्देश भी दिया।

घूमते-घूमते वह एक 'लकी शॉप' में गया। इसका नाम इसलिए रखा गया ताकि कोई भी अपनी किस्मत आजमा सके। एक व्यक्ति को 50 पैसे की 6 डिस्क खरीदनी थी। इन डिस्क की संख्या को जोड़कर एक लेख जीता जा सकता है।

फिर एक बूढ़ा आदमी आता है, उसने पचास पैसे में 6 डिस्क चुनी और जोड़ने पर उसने रुपये की एक सुंदर घड़ी जीती। 15 और खुशी-खुशी चले गए।

तभी एक लड़का वहां अपनी किस्मत आजमाने आया। उसने 25 पैसे की एक कंघी जीती लेकिन कंघे को उसी कीमत पर लौटा दिया, जो वह नहीं चाहता था। फिर उसने एक फाउंटेन पेन, कलाई घड़ी जीती लेकिन उन सभी को वापस कर दिया, उसने एक मेमने की कीमत जीती? 10 और अंत में खुश था।

इस सब ने रशीद को भी अपनी किस्मत आजमाने के लिए प्रेरित किया। उन्होंने भैया की सहमति ली और 25 पैसे में 6 डिस्क खरीदीं। पहले उसने दो पेंसिलें और फिर एक स्याही की बोतल जीती। इन बातों का कोई मूल्य नहीं था। हालांकि दुकानदार ने उन्हें खरीद लिया।

बड़ा इनाम जीतने की उम्मीद में रशीद अपनी किस्मत आजमाता चला गया। देखने वालों ने उसे दर्शन दिए। किसी को उनसे हमदर्दी हो रही थी तो किसी के लिए वो हंसी का पात्र बन गए।

चाचा के आने पर भैया ने घटना की जानकारी दी। अंकल मुस्कुराए और सब कुछ अनसुना कर दिया। उसने उसे एक छाता, बिस्कुट और मिठाई और अन्य उपहार खरीदे।

जिद करने पर अंकल ने उसे बताया कि कैसे उसे दुकानदार ने बेवकूफ बनाया और उसने उसे सब कुछ अपने पास रखने की सलाह भी दी, नहीं तो लोग उसकी मूर्खता पर हंसेंगे।

As was customary, a fair was held in the writer's village on the occasion of Eid. This went on for several days. Temporary shops selling a variety of goods in different sizes were set up.

Once the narrator got an opportunity to go to the fair with his uncle and brother. The uncle met his friends at the fair and wanted to spend time with them. So he asked the boy to look around the fair and also instructed him not to buy anything from there.

While roaming around, he went to a 'Lucky Shop'. It was named so that anyone can try their luck. A person had to buy 6 discs for 50 paise. An article can be won by adding up the number of these discs.

Then an old man comes, he chose 6 discs for fifty paise and on adding he won a beautiful watch of Rs. 15 and went away happily.

Then a boy came there to try his luck. He won a comb worth 25 paise but returned the comb at a price which he did not want. Then he won a fountain pen, wristwatch but returned them all, he won the cost of a lamb? 10 and was happy in the end.

All this inspired Rashid to try his luck. He took brother's consent and bought 6 discs for 25 paise. First he won two pencils and then an ink bottle. These things had no value. However, the shopkeeper bought them.

Hoping to win a big prize, Rashid went on trying his luck. The onlookers gave him darshan. Some were feeling sympathetic to him and for some he became a laughing stock.

When uncle came, Bhaiya informed about the incident. Uncle smiled and ignored everything. He bought her an umbrella, biscuits and sweets and other gifts.

On insisting, Uncle told him how he was fooled by the shopkeeper and he even advised him to keep everything with him, otherwise people would laugh at his stupidity.
