कथाकार ने मिस बीम नाम की मालकिन का वर्णन किया जो एक मध्यम आयु वर्ग की, सख्त लेकिन समझदार महिला थी। उन्होंने बताया कि स्कूल में छात्रों को शब्दावली, गणित और लेखन पढ़ाया जाता था लेकिन शिक्षण का असली उद्देश्य विचारशीलता और दया पैदा करना था।

His aim was to make his students experience the pain of deformity. In each period each child had a blind day, a lame day, a deaf day, a wounded day and a dumb day.

On the blind day, the students promised to peep through the bandage. The duty was given to assist and guide other students to make collaborative efforts.

He reiterated that the experiment was successful and there was no room for unpleasantness. The students took it as a game and they realized the real situation.

After this he was given a chance to talk to a girl. She was blind that day. He told her about his experience. She said the assistant was sensitive enough to help her.

When she asked him to accompany her, she took him for a walk. He told her about the 'lame days' he had experienced. He feared going blind the most.

He told her about a girl named Millie, the leading girl, who was running with Miss Beam. He also talked about the gardener Peter.

The whole experience made the narrator thoughtful and left the school with a heavy heart.
