പ്രവൃത്തി കൾ ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ട്‌ വിശുദ്ധരായ

അറിയാമെന്നും ആശ്രമപരിസ്രത്തായത്‌ ;

ക്കിതയും ആനന്ദമൂണ്ടാകുന്നു. അപ്പോള്‍ ഇവനെ

പറഞ്ഞതോടെ വെറുതെയല്ല രണ്ടുപേര്‍ക്കും ഒരേ
മുഖച്ഛായ എന്ന്‌ രാജാവ്‌ ചിന്തിച്ചു.
പുരുവംശത്തിലെ രാജാക്കന്മാര്‍ രാജ്യഭരണം
കഴിഞ്ഞ്‌ വാനപ്രസ്ഥത്തിലെത്തിയാല്‍ ഭാര്യാ
സമേതം കാടുകയറാറുണ്ട്‌. അങ്ങനെ
മുന്‍കാലങ്ങളില്‍ പോയ ഏതെങ്കിലും
പൂര്‍വികന്റെ കുഞ്ഞാ യിരിക്കാം ഈ ബാലൻ

ബാലന്‍ അപ്പര സംഭവനാണെന്നും മാതാവ്‌
അവനെ കാശ്യപാശ്രമത്തില്‍,പ്രസലിച്ചതാ
ണെന്നും താപസിമാര്‍ പറഞ്ഞതോടെ
ദുഷ്യന്തന്റെ സംശയങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ ആക്കം കൂടി.
ദുഷ്യന്തന്‍ അവളെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച്‌ രാജര്‍ഷിയുടെ ;
പേര്‌ ചോദിക്കുന്നു. ധർമ്മ പതിയെ ഉപേക്ഷിച്ച ;
രാജാവിന്റെ പേര പറയാന്‍ കൂടി മടിയുണ്ട്‌ എന്ന്‌
താപസിമാര്‍ പറഞ്ഞു. ]
ഇതിനിടെ മയിലൂമായി വന്ന ഒന്നാം താപസി
'ശകുന്ത ലാവണ്യം' കണ്ടോ എന്ന്‌ ചോദിച്ച
പ്പോള്‍ ബുലൻ'എവിടെ എന്റെ അമ്മ എന്ന്‌
പറഞ്ഞതോടെ കുട്ടിയുടെ അമ്മയുടെ പേര്‌ ശകു
ന്തള എന്ന്തന്നെയായിരിക്കുമോ എന്ന സംശയം
ദുഷ്യന്തനില്‍ ബലപ്പെട്ടു.
വീണ്ടും ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന സംഭവങ്ങളെല്ലാം ഈ
സംശയത്തിന്ന്‌ ആക്കം കൂട്ടുന്നു. കുട്ടിയുടെ
കയ്യില്‍ നിന്ന്‌ വീണ അപരാജിതയന്തം
ദുഷ്യന്തന്‍ എടുക്കുന്നുവെങ്കിലും താപസിമാര്‍
സംശയിച്ച പോലെ ദുഷ്യന്ത്‌ ഒന്നും

എന്റെ അച്ഛന്‍ ദുഷ്യന്തനാണ്‌ എന്ന്‌ ബാലന്‍

ശകുന്തളയ്ക്ക്‌ ദുഷ്യന്തനെ കണ്ട്‌

ദുഷ്യന്തന്‍ ശകുന്തളയുടെ കാല്‍ക്കല്‍ വീണു ;

രാജാവ്‌ മറുപടി പറയുന്നു. അന്ന്‌ എന്റെ ;
ബുദ്ധിഭ്രമം മൂലം നിന്റെ കണ്ണുനീര്‍ വകവച്ചില്ല. ;
ഇന്ന്‌ ഞാനെന്റെ കൈകള്‍ കൊണ്ട്‌ ഞാനാ
കണ്ണീര്‍ തുടച്ചു പശ്ചാത്താപം ചെയ്യട്ടെ. ;
രാജാവ്‌ കണ്ണീര്‍ തുടയ്ക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ശകുന്തള

ന്തനു൦ശകുന്തളയും പുത്രനും കൂടി കാശ്യപന്റെ
അനുഗ്രഹം വാങ്ങാന്‍ പോകുന്നു. ദുഷ്യന്തനെ
കാശ്യപന്‍ ഭാര്യ അദിതിക്ക്‌ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തി ;
ഇപ്രകാരം പറയുന്നു.
അല്ലയോ, പത്തി ദാക്ഷായണി, നിന്റെ പുത്രനായ
ഇന്ദ്രനെ യുദ്ധത്തില്‍ സഹായിക്കാനായി പോയി ;
ജയിച്ചു വരുന്ന ദുഷ്യന്തനാണ്‌ ഇദ്ദേഹം.
ഇദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കുലവില്ലിനെ സാമര്‍ത്ഥ്യം
ഒന്നുകൊണ്ടു തന്നെ ഇന്ദ്രന്‍ വിജയിച്ചു.
ദുഷ്യന്തനും ശകുന്തളയും പുത്രനും മാരീല-
ദാക്ഷായണിമാരുടെ പാദങ്ങളില്‍ നമസ്കരി
ക്കുന്നു. മാരീചന്‍ അവരെ അനുഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നു. --
ഇന്ദ്രതുല്യനായ ഭര്‍ത്താവും, ഇന്ദ്രന്റെ മകന്‍
ജയന്തന്‌ തുല്യനായ മകനും ഇതിനപ്പുറം എന്ത്‌
