Tom felt like he was going to jail all Monday morning. Tom wanted to stay home from school, so he lay in bed and wanted to get sick. At first he wanted to complain of stomach ache and then tooth decay, but he changed his mind for fear that his aunt would pull his teeth and injure him.

Tom already knew that an injured leg could keep a person in bed for up to three weeks. So he lifted his toe up and began to moan loudly in imaginary pain, waking up the squirrel who was sleeping near him. Finally, Sid wakes up thinking that Tom is really struggling for hours. Sid was upset about Tom's condition and began to confess his sins as he was about to die.

Sid flew downstairs to quickly call Aunt Polly to save Tom. Polly Aunty rushed upstairs trembling. She soon realized that Tom was pretending to die of leg pain. So Tom said that now a loose tooth hurts.

When Aunt Polly was getting ready to pull a tooth out of a silk thread and a piece of fire, Tom panicked and admitted that it would no longer hurt him and that he would go to school and not go fishing.

Old Aunt Polly loved the naughty Tom, however he often tries to break his heart. She pulled his tooth raw and let go of his toothache.
