ജീവിതരേഖ :1856-1928. ഈഴവ സമുദായത്തില്‍
ജനിച്ച്‌ അദ്ദേഹം ജാതി വ്യവസ്ഥിതിയെ ചോദ്യം
ചെയ്തു. കേരളം കണ്ട ഉത്തമനായ സാമൂഹ്യ
പരിഷ്ക്കർത്താവ്‌, ഗുരു വിദ്യാലയങ്ങളും
അവസാനിപ്പിക്കാന്‍ യത്നിച്ചു. 'ഒരു ജാതി ഒരു
മതം ഒരു ദൈവം മനുഷ്യന് 'എന്നത്‌ ഈ സാമൂഹ്യ
സ്നേഹിയുടെ വലിയ സ്വപ്നമായിരുന്നു.

കാരുണ്യത്താല്‍ മനുഷ്യനു സന്തോഷം ലഭിക്കും.
കാരുണ്യമില്ലാത്തൊരു ഹൃദയം അവന്‌
ദുഃഖങ്ങളെ സമ്മാനിക്കും. ഇരുട്ട കുന്ന
അറിവില്ലായ്മ കാരുണ്യത്തെ ഇല്ലാതാക്കും.
നിതാന്തമായ ദുഃഖത്തിനു നമ്മെ കരുവാക്കി
മാറ്റും. ഒപ്പം എല്ലാ ദുരിതത്തിനും നമ്മെ
ഉപകരണമാക്കി മാറ്റുകയും ചെയ്യും. കാരുണ്യം,
ദയ, സഹാനുഭൂതി ഇവ മൂന്നിനും കൂടി നമ്മുടെ
ജീവിതത്തില്‍ അര്‍ത്ഥമുണ്ടാക്കണം. ഇവ മൂന്നും
കൂടിയ അര്‍ത്ഥവിശേഷണം ഒന്നു തന്നെയാണ്‌
നമ്മുടെ ജീവനക്ഷത്രം. ച
കാരുണ്യമുള്ളവനാണ്‌ മനുഷ്യനെന്നു മന്ത്രം
ഉരുവിടുക. ജീവിതം ശ്രഷ്ഠമാകും.

സാഗരം (ജീവിതമാകുന്ന കടല്‍) ക്ടത്തി മോക്ഷ
അതിലേക്ക്‌ നയിക്കുന്നത്‌,കാരുണ്യം ]
വറ്റിപ്പോയാല്‍ നമ്മുടട്‌ ശരീരം വെറും അസ്ഥിയും
തോലും, ഞരമ്പുക്ളും ചേര്‍ന്ന നാറുന്ന ഒന്നായി
(ശരീരം) മാറും; മരൂഭൂമിയിലെ പ്രഹേളികയായ ]
മരീചിക ഫ്ലോലെയും, ഗന്ധമില്ലാത്ത പൂവ്‌
പോലെയും ആദേഹം (ആ പുരുഷന്‍) ഫലമില്ലാ
ആതാകും.
ആസ്വാദനം
യുഗപ്രഭാവനും, സാമൂഹിക
പരിഷ്കര്‍ത്താവുമായ ശ്രീനാരായ ണഗുരുവിനെ
ഈ കവിതയിലൂടെ അടുത്തറിയുകയാണ്‌. സാമു |
ദായിക, സാമൂഹിക മണ്ഡലങ്ങളില്‍
സൂര്യതേജസ്സോടെ വിളങ്ങി നിന്നിരുന്ന ഗുരുവിന്‌
ഒരു കവിമുഖം കൂടി ഉണ്ടെന്നുള്ളത്‌ തികച്ചും
കയതുകകരമായ കാര്യമാണ്‌. ഒരു
കാലഘട്ടത്തിന്റെ വെളിച്ചമായി രുന്നു ഗുരു. ]
ഇരുട്ടിലാണ്ടു കിടന്ന ഒരു സമൂഹത്തിന്‌ അറിവി ;
ന്റെ, മനഃശ്ശക്തിയുടെ തെളിച്ചം ഗുരു പകര്‍ന്നു
കൊടുത്തു.
അയിത്തം തുടങ്ങിയ അനാചാരങ്ങൾ
കൊടികുത്തി വാണിരുന്ന തന്നെകൈകാര്യം
ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടു. ഏറ്റവും മൃഗീയമായ രീതിയില്‍ ജന
ങ്ങൾ പരസ്പരം പെരുമാറി. ഒരിക്കലും
മാനുഷികമൂല്യങ്ങൾക്ക്‌ വിലകൽപ്പിക്കാതെ,
ജാതിക്കോമരങ്ങളായിമാറിയ സവര്‍ണ്ണാധിപത്യം
അതിന്റെ ഉച്ചസ്ഥായിയിൽ എത്തിയ
സമയങ്ങളിലാണ്‌ ശ്രീനാരായണ ഗുരുദേവന്റെ ;
രംഗ്രപവേശം. ]
മലയാളവര്‍ഷം (1856) 1031 ചിങ്ങമാ സത്തിലെ
ചതയം നാളിൽ ചെമ്പഴന്തിയിലെ 'വയൽവാരം
വീട്ടിലാണ്‌ ഗുരുദേവന്‍ ജനിച്ചത്‌. ആത്മീയ
അനുഭൂതിയുടെ സന്താനമായിരുന്നു അദ്ദേഹം
അതു കൊണ്ടുതന്നെ എല്ലാ മതങ്ങളുടേയും സാരം
ഒന്നുതന്നെ ആണെന്ന്‌ അദ്ദേഹം തിരിച്ചറിഞ്ഞു.
മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഉയര്‍ച്ചയ്ക്ക വേണ്ടിയാകണം മതം
ഉപകരിക്കേണ്ടതെന്ന്‌ ഗുരു അറിഞ്ഞു.
അതുകൊണ്ടു കൂടിയാണ്‌ മനുഷ്യനെ
കേന്ദ്രബിന്ദുവാക്കി ഗുരു മതത്തെ ദര്‍ശിച്ചത്‌.
മനുഷ്യന്റെ ഉയര്‍ച്ച പ്രധാനമായും നാല്‌ മുഖ
ങ്ങളിലൂടെയായിരിക്കണം. ഭയതികം, ധാർമ്മികം,
സംസ്കാരികം, ആത്മീയം - ഈ മുഖങ്ങളുടെ
(അവസ്ഥകളുടെ) ഉണര്‍വ്വം, ഉയര്‍ച്ചയും
ഒരേസമയം ആയിരിക്കണം.
അതു മുന്‍കൂട്ടി കണ്ടു കൊണ്ടാണ്‌
'മതമേതായാലും മനുഷ്യന് നന്നായാല്‍ മതി എന്ന
സന്ദേശം ഗുരുദേവന്‍ നൽകിയത്‌. വർത്തമാനകാല
സാഹചര്യ ങ്ങളില്‍, പ്രതേ, കിച്ച്‌ വിഭാഗീയഭാന്ത്‌,
മനുഷ്യരെ ഭ്രാന്തുപിടിപ്പിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു.
ഈ അന്ധതയുടെ കാലത്ത്‌ ഗുരുദേവ സന്ദേ
ശങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ വലിയ'പ്രസ്ഭതി ഉണ്ട്‌
കേരളം എന്നു വളരെ ചെറിയ
സംസ്ഥാനത്തിലൊതുങ്ങി ഏറിയ കാലവും
ജീവില്ലെങ്കിലും ഗുരുദേവന്‍ തന്റെ
ജീവിതത്തിലും, വചനങ്ങളിലും കൂടി പകര്‍ന്നു
തന്നത്‌, ഏതു കാലത്തിനും, ഏതു രാജ്യത്തിനും
(കാലദേശാഭാഷാതിവര്‍ത്തിയായ)
അനുയോജ്യവും, നിത്യവുമായ
ദര്‍ശനസമാഹാരമാണ്‌. നമ്മുടെ മഹത്തായ
ആര്‍ഷ ഭാരതസം സ്കാരത്തിന്റെ
അതിപുരാതനമായ മൂല്യങ്ങൾ, ആ ദർശനങ്ങ ളിൽ
കുടികൊള്ളുന്നതായി കാണാം. ശ്രീനാരായണഗുരു
സ്വാമി കളുടെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ സന്ദേശം സ്വന്തം
ജീവിതം തന്നെ ആയി രുന്നു. കളങ്കത്തിന്റെ കറ
പറ്റാത്ത വിശുദ്ധമായ ജീവിതം ഗുരു നയിച്ചു.
സാത്വികഭാവത്തില്‍ ഈന്നിയ കര്‍മ്മങ്ങളില്‍
വ്യാപരിച്ചു. സ്വജീവിതത്തില്‍ ആചരിച്ച
ആദര്‍ശങ്ങള്‍ മാത്രം ഉപദേശിച്ചു.
ഒരു സ്പര്‍ശം കൊണ്ട്‌ ന
ഉണര്‍ത്താന്‍ ഗുരു വിന്‌ കഴി . തന്റെ
ദര്‍ശനങ്ങള്‍ അതിലളിതമായി ക്കുവാന്‍
സ്വാമി കൾക്ക്‌ (ഗുരുവിന്‌) കു ഒരു
മികച്ച കവിയുടെ മറനീ. റത്തുവരൽ
അത്തരം ളാ കഴിയും.
അങ്ങനെയുള്ള ാ ളൊന്നും തന്നെ
അദ്ദേഹം പാ രുന്നില്ല. മലയാളം,
സംസ്കൃതം” ഭാഷകളിലായി അനേകം
കവിരകഴി്ഹം രചിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്‌.
ഗുരുവിന്റെ കാവ്യ ലോകം മലയാള കവിതയില്‍
ഒരു ഏകാന്തമായ ഗോപുരം പോലെ ഉയര്‍ന്നു
നില്‍ക്കുന്നു. ഇഷ്ട്ദേവതകളെ സംബന്ധിക്കുന്ന
കവിതകളാണ്‌ ഗുരു ആദ്യകാലത്ത്‌ രചിച്ചത്‌.ഗുരു

ശ്രീനാരായണഗുരുവിന്റെ അധികമാരും
അറിഞ്ഞിട്ടില്ലാത്ത ഈ കാവ്യമുഖത്തിന്‌ പല
ഘട്ടങ്ങള്‍ കണ്ടെത്താന്‍ കഴിയും. ആദ്യഘട്ടം ]
നേരത്തെ സൂചിപ്പിച്ചപോലെ ദേവതാ
സ്തുതികളാണെങ്കിൽ അടു ത്തഘട്ടം ഗുരു,
ആത്മീയാനുഭൂതിയുടെ പ്രകാശനങ്ങളായിട്ടാണ്‌ ]
അവതരിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്‌. പൂ
മൂന്നാംഘട്ടത്തില്‍, തത്ത്ജ്ഞാനങ്ങള്‍ നിറഞ്ഞ
ആശയങ്ങളുടെ വലിയൊരു ലോകം തന്നെ ]
ആയിരുന്നു അവ. ഗുരുവിന്റെ ഭാവയരീതിയുടെ
ഏറ്റവും വലിയ സവിശേഷത അതി
ലടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്ന അനായാസമായ ]
രചനാശൈലിയാണ്‌. ഗുരു പറഞ്ഞു കൊടുക്കുന്നത്‌.
ശിഷ്യഗണങ്ങള്‍ പകര്‍ത്തുന്ന രീതിയായി രുന്നു.
ഗുരുവിന്റെകവിതകൾ ആത്മിയാനുഭൂതിയും,
ഭയരതിക റിവുകളും ഒരുപോലെ സരളമായി ]
പ്രതിഷുദില്ചു.
കുട്ടിക്കാലത്ത്‌ പശുക്കളെ മേയ്ക്കുവാനായി
നടക്കുമ്പോള്‍ മനസ്സിൽ തോന്നുന്ന വരികൾ ഗുരു
അപ്പപ്പോള്‍ ചൊല്ലുമായിരുന്നു. കവിതകൾ എഴു
തിവെക്കുന്ന ശീലം ഗുരുവിന്‌ ഒരിക്കലും ]
ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. പാഠഭാഗമായ കവിതയിലും
ഗുരു പുലര്‍ത്തുന്ന ലാളിത്യവും, അതി ലുടെ ;
വിളംബരം ചെയ്യുന്ന അസാധാരണ തലത്തിലുള്ള
ആദര്‍ശ ആദ്യശ്ലോകത്തിൽ തന്നെ ഗുരു
മുനോട്ടുവെയ്ക്കുന്നത്‌, ഒരു ഉറു സിനെപോലും
നോവിക്കാതെന്ന ഏറ്റവും ലളിതവും, എന്നാൽ
ഉത്കൃഷ്ടവും ആയ ആശയമാണ്‌. ഒരു ഉറുമ്പോളം
താഴുക എന്നാല്‍ അത്രത്തോളം എളിമപ്പെടുക
എന്നര്‍ത്ഥം.

മനുഷ്യന് എപ്പോഴും തു
മാത്രമാണവന്റെ ശ്രദ്ധ മുഴുവന്‍. താഴെ
ഒരു ലോകമുണ്ടെന്ന സത്യം അവനെപ്പോഴും
വിസ്മ രിക്കും. സഹജീവികളോടുള്ള കരുണ,
പലപ്പോഴും പ്രസംഗത്തി 1
അവശേഷിക്കും. നിത, തത്തില്‍,
പ്രായോഗികതയില്‍ കം നു വലിയ സ്ഥാനം
ലഭിച്ചെന്നു വരില്ല...” ഗ്‌
തനിച്ചു താഴേക്കു സൂക്ഷിച്ചുനോക്കുമ്പോള്‍
നമുക്കു കാണാം, നമ്മേക്കാള്‍ എളിയ വന്‍,
സഹായം.ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നവന്‍, നരകയാതന
അനുഭവിക്കു ന്നവര്‍... ആ ഒരു കാഴ്ചപ്പാട്‌
ആദ്യമേ മനസ്സിൽ പതിഞ്ഞാലേ, മറ്റൊ രാൾക്ക്‌
കഷ്ട്ട ഉണ്ടാക്കാതെ ജീവിക്കാന്‍ കഴിയൂ.
തന്നില്‍ എളി യവന്‌ കഷ്ടപ്പാട്‌ വരുത്താതെ
ജീവിക്കാന്‍, മറ്റുള്ളവരെ വേദനിപ്പിക്കാതെ
ജീവിക്കാന്‍ സാധിക്കണം. സാധുപരിപാലനം
ജീവിതവതമാകണം. അതുപോലെതന്നെ
പ്രധാനപ്പെട്ടതാണ്‌ ഈശ്വരോന്മുഖമായ ജീവി -
തവും. ഈശ്വരസമക്ഷത്തില്‍ നിന്ന്‌
ഒട്ടുനേരംപോലും വിട്ടു നിൽക്കാതെ, സദാ
ഈശ്വരാക്ഷത്തിന്‌ പാത്രീഭവിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ള ഒരു
ജീവിതം സാധ്യമാകണമെന്നും ഗുരു
ഉപദേശിക്കുന്നു. ചിന്ത കളിൽ, പ്രവൃത്തികളില്‍
നേര്‌ ഉണ്ടാകണം എല്ലായ്പ്പോഴും.
കാരുണ്യവൃത്തികള്‍ കം
വ്രതമായി കരുതിയാല്‍ അത്‌ സന്തോഷം
പകര്‍ന്നുതരും. “ഉള്ളൂരിന്റെ 'സുഖം, സുഖം'
എന്നൊരു കവിത ഇവി ലാച നാമൃതമാണ്‌.
കസ്തൂരിമാനെപ്പോലെ മനുഷ്യന് സുഖത്തിന്റെ
പിന്നാലെ പായു ക്നാ
കസ്തൂര്‌ റിയില്ല, തന്റെ
പൊക്കി ല്‍ നിന്നാണ്‌, ഈ സ്വർഗ്ഗീയ
കുക്ങളി്വി ക്കുന്നതെന്ന്‌, അതെവിടെ
നിന്നാ അറിയാതെ, ഓരോ നിമിഷവുംആ
മണത്തിന്റെ ഉറവിടമന്വേഷിച്ച്‌ അത്‌ ]
അസ്വസ്ഥമായ അവ സ്ഥയിൽ കഴിയുന്നു. ആ
തിരിച്ചറിവ്‌ ലഭിക്കാതെ ഈ ലോകത്തു - നിന്നും
മാഞ്ഞുപോകുന്നു. മനുഷ്യനും അതുപോലെ
സുഖമമനമ്പേ ഷിച്ച്‌ നടക്കുന്നു. സുഖം മനുഷ്യന്റെ
ഹൃദയത്തില്‍ കുടികൊള്ളുന്ന ഒന്നാണ്‌. പക്ഷേ
അതവന്‌ അറിയില്ല. കാരുണ്യമാര്‍ന്ന
ഹൃദയത്തോടെ അന്യന്‌ ഉപകാരം ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍
പരോപകാരം പുണ്യം) ആ സുഖം അവൻ
അനുഭവിക്കുന്നു. ശ്രീനാരായണഗുരു മുന്നോട്ടു
വെക്കുന്ന മനോഹരമായ ആശ യത്തിന്റെ
തുടര്‍ച്ച തന്നെയാണ്‌ ഉള്ളൂരിന്റെ കവിതയിലും
കാണു - വാന്‍ കഴിയുക. വ്‌ ]
കരുണ കൊണ്ട്‌ സന്തോഷം ജന്‌ ാരുണ്യം
അകലുമ്പോള്‍, എല്ലാ ദുഃഖങ്ങ ടന്നുവരുന്നു
കാരുണ്യമില്ലാത്ത വരണ്ട്‌ മനഃ ളിൽ ദുഃഖം
കൂട്ടുകൂടുന്നു. കാരുണ്യ; താക്കുന്നത്‌
അറിവില്ലായ്മ (അ ) ആകുന്ന
ഇരുട്ടാണെന്ന്‌ ഗുരൂ ഓര്‍മ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ഈ ഇരുട്ട്‌
പതിയെ പത്‌ ദുഃഖത്തിന്റേയും,
വിപരീത യ കരുവാക്കി
മാറ്റുന്നു
അജ്ഞതയെ ഗുരു എത്രമാത്രം വെറുത്തു
എന്നതിന്റെ നേർസാ ക്ഷ്യമാണീ വരികൾ.
'വിദ്യകൊണ്ട്‌ പ്രബുദ്ധരാവുക” എന്ന ആഹ്വാനം
ശ്രീനാരായണ ഗുരു നടത്തിയതിന്‌ പിന്നിൽ ഗുരു
ദര്‍ശനങ്ങളുടെ സ്വാധീനം എത്രമാത്രമുണ്ടെന്ന്‌
ഇതിലൂടെ മനസ്സി ലാക്കാം. ഭയതികമായും
(ലരകിക ജീവിതത്തിലും), ആത്മീയമായും
അറിവിന്‌ വലിയ സ്ഥാനമാണ്‌ ഉളളത്‌. ഈ
ലോകജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ഏറ്റവും വലിയ
ചങ്ങലക്കെട്ടാണ്‌ അജ്ഞാനം. അജ്ഞാനം നമ്മ
അടിമയാക്കുന്നു. ഒപ്പം ആത്മീയമായ
സന്തോഷത്തെയും അകറ്റുന്ന
കൂരിരുട്ടായിത്തീരുന്നു. കാരുണ്യവും,
അനുകമ്പയും, ദയയും ഇവ മൂന്നുമാണ്‌ മനു
ഷ്യനെ ഈ ജീവിത മാകുന്ന കടൽ കടക്കാൻ
സഹായിക്കുന്നവയായി ീവതാരകുാമാറുന്നത്‌.
ഈ ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ മറു കര തീർച്ചയായും
മോക്ഷമാണ്‌. മോക്ഷത്തിലേക്കുള്ള പാലമായി
ഇവ മൂന്നും വര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്നു. ഈ
കാരുണ്യസ്‌. പ മനുഷ്യന് വെറും
നാറുന്ന ശരീരമായിത്തീരും.
കൃമികിടങ്ങള്‍ക്ക്‌ ഭക്ഷണമായി മാറാവുന്ന ഈ
നശ്വര ശരീര$കൊണ്ട്‌, അനശ്വര മായ
കാരുഞ്യപ്രവൃത്തികളുടെ, ഒരിക്കലും മഹിമ
ചോരാത്ത അധ്യായങ്ങള്‍ രചിക്കാന്‍ അവനു
കഴിയും; കഴിയണം, അവി ടെയാണ്‌ അവന്റെ
മഹത്വം. ഗുരുവിന്റെ കവിതകളിൽ നിന്ന്‌
തത്ത്വജ്ഞാനത്തിന്റെ ദര്‍ശനത്തിന്റെ ഗരിമ
മാറ്റിവെച്ചാലും അയത്ന ലളിതമായ
രചനാവൈഭവം പൂക്കൾപോലെ ശോഭയേറി
നയനാനന്ദകരമായി പൂത്തുനിൽക്കു ന്നതുകാണാം.
എന്നാല്‍ ഒരു കവിയെന്ന രീതിയിൽ വളരെ വിരള
മായെ ഗുരു അറിയപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നുള്ളൂ.
സാഹിത്യചരിത്രത്തിലും മറ്റും ഒരു
പരാമര്‍ശത്തിനുപോലും സാധ്യതയും, ഇടവും
നല്‍കിയിട്ടി ല്ലെങ്കിൽ കൂടി, അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ
കവിതകളും, സ്തോത്രങ്ങളും .അനേക
രൂപത്തിലും, ഭാവത്തിലുമുള്ള
ദര്‍ശനകാവ്യങ്ങളാണ്‌. ള്‍ പം
